From Xbox to PC

Hi, I have just built a new PC and want to switch from my Xbox One X to PC for Fallout 4, I was hoping someone with a lot more experience than myself could tell me how well this new PC could handle a medium to heavy modded Fallout game. Specs are...

i5 7600 3.5gb

16Gb

1050Ti

1tb HDD (will upgrade to SSD at some point)

Mods I am interested in using as I do on the xbox are.

Sim Settlements & Rise of the Commonwealth

Militarized Minutemen

Scrap that settlement

USO & Season Pass

UCO

AFT

AWKC & Armorsmith extended

A few Interface and pipboy mods (Def_UI, Pipboy colour enabler VIS etc)

Some decent body and Face mods

A few decent weapon and Armour mods (possibly modern firearms)

And a few gameplay change mods, currently using Unique wasteland experiance - stable - Immersive Fallout DLC - A touch of life (Basic)

A few other smaller mods but I think those are the main larger mods I wish to use.

Also anything that can help with the load order, I intend to use NMM to install the mods.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks.

My game is massively modded ( I barely have room for any more esp's ) and runs well and my specs are

i7 4770

16gb ram

GTX 980

2tb HD ( I have a SSD for the operating system but I have the games on my HDD )

Your specs seem comparable or better than mine in some areas ( your processor seems faster http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4770-vs-Intel-Core-i5-7600/1978vs3890 and theres not much to choose between them in the graphics with yours being a Ti version http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-980-vs-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti ) so basically if I have a ton of mods installed and it runs well then you should have no problem either and I have most of the main graphics on Ultra as well as using HBAO ambient occlusion which looks way better than standard Ambient occlusion . Just dont have weapon debris on and also only have god rays on medium or low because theyre needless frame killers even on good systems . Dont use 4k texture options in most mods either , if you have a choice go for the 2k option and only go for the highest option for textures that are most noticable like Skintones for your character . 4k textures are overkill for most things and are barely noticably better while needlessly wasting extra vram . Also install ENBoost to optimise the resources of what you already have . You might still have some slowdown in Downtown central Boston regardless of your specs but thats mainly due to the game being buggy there so is pretty hard to avoid that but in most of the game it will run nicely .

Oh , and don't install the official texture pack either . Its hard-drive consuming , unoptimised rubbish and much better texture mods that use far less resources can be found on the Nexus .

PS I also forgot to mention that I use a 1440 p resolution for the game too so as long as youre not using some mega triple screen resolution or something you should be ok on that score too .

Thanks for the reply, that's excellent news, I really miss when I used to play Skyrim with mods from the nexus on my old pc and it just doesn't feel the same with the console, also since the latest enhancement patch for the Xbox One X the game is almost as unplayable as it used to be, especially around Boston common.

I have read of a app or mod called LOOT to help with the load order, I will buy the GOTY edition for PC now I know my PC should be able to handle the mods and give that a try.

Just using 1080 atm may look at a 4k monitor in the future but got to make some cash back first after building the new pc.

Thanks again for the help.

If you do still have performance issues then do as I do and just lower the resolution and set your graphics card drivers to ' no scaling ' . Doing it that way you get a black border around your game screen but it still looks as good as before and looks better than a lower resolution filling the screen ( which would look a little more blurry than usual ) . I find that a much better option than turning the graphics settings themselves down . I dont have to do that for many games anyway , but WWE2k18 is extremely buggy and laggy on any res higher than 1080 p because its a console port so I have to knock it down to 1080 from 1440 . If youre already using a 1080 monitor/tv though then all the better for you with your performance .

As far as the downtown Boston issues go you can also get mods that help with the framerate there ( either on Nexus or Bethesda or both ) .

And lastly , the graphics card is just about the easiest bit to upgrade in your comp so providing you have enough power that is something for you to look into in the future ( a 1060 if you dont want to spend too much or a lovely 1080 if you have the moolah ) . For now though your system looks good enough to run the game at high levels at a decent res . Any upgrade for you would be more for future games than Fallout 4 .

Just bought the GOTY £20 on cdkeys.com so bargain for that, hopefully with your advice I can run the game without too many issues, I do understand that running any game with mods has it's problems but they seem to be a lot easier to handle on a pc than a console, especially with mod managers to help.

Hopefully it will run ok but if not I will give the no scaling a try.

Thanks again for the help.

Welcome to the dark side

I also came from the XB and came to PC about 8 months ago. You are going to have a blast especially with Downtown Boston (I remember the issues I had on the old XB LOL).

In regards to LOOT......That's a very useful tool to use (I use it as a frame of refference for my LO) but I also use the NMM plug-in section to manually move mods that it places in the incorrect place (in my opinion). That's one of the benefits of first modding FO:4 on XB, it taught me how to manually place mods in the correct LO through the in game mod manager.

Anyway have fun and if you have any issues later on just hit me up and I'll try to help if I can

Thanks I may just do that :) I actually used to be an exclusive pc gamer but with the prices consoles so much cheaper than having to continuously upgrade the pc I switched, I don't regret getting the xbox but I do miss PC gaming.

My last PC lasted me nearly 15 years with just adding a bit more memory and a change in graphics card every few years, but it just got to old to play anything modern (i7 920 cpu), the wife needed a new pc as her laptop just about had it, so she now has my old system for work and I have a shiny new system :D.

Yeah that LOOT looks good, I think I used to use a program called BOSS ? was a good few years ago though so not 100%.
