Sword Request Competition

You can place it anywhere you like JaySuS, I really don't mind at all. As for the sword, plain steel will do. And the grip should probably be faded black leather. The scabbard just brown leather.

Hey Jaysus. I am thrilled that you like my sword. I will look into poly count, but I would love it if you would make it anyway. Forget the expense!

EDIT: I just remembered this thing I have called the Killer Chainsaw. This thing is ridiculous huge, it has several blades, and the whole thing rotates. Surely that has a higher poly count than my sword could. As far as intricacy, you can work wonders with a good texture and normal map...

Hey i added a new sword (the far right one) Now the colors for it i like, but i think it would be better in a normal color style...

@jack

simple: no

complicated: yes... draw it from more than one side and get it right dunno why i should spend somin like 10h if you just spend 1minute...

@lainge

the script shouldnt stop to my knowledge thats why i used a script and no enchantment so you could still enchant it

@tri

normal map and texture wont do here as the curvature of the dragons neck and tail aswell as the basic shape of the head cant be done with less than these 1k polies... tried it but then it becomes a too much pixelated and edged thing... the normal map only can add groves but it cant smooth somin

@nami

yay youre getting better :) just keep in mind that you actually need to grip the sword somehow... if you have two large spikes sticking through your wrist itd hurt i guess...

@talos

plain steel it is then, i think ill add a 2nd version with some ornaments tho...

yeah, i'm a guy. An old guy. I've "trained my style" for longer than some people in this thread have been alive.

i have to admit, i haven't kept up with it for the past few years, due to that old thing about what to do with a fine art degree once you get out into the real world and have to eat.

i've done all sorts of stuff, from whippin out a few sword sketches, to more serious cerebral art, to organizing art/music events, etc etc.

Of course, i've always been a computer game nerd, and after having stumbled across TES Oblivion, i find it's the only game thats almost better at providing a creative outlet than at being a game.

just spent most of the afternoon in Blender, wasting time ultimately. I was able to create an accurate outline of one of my swords by using bezier curves over an imported background image, but they don't work like i expected them to. (as far as drawing shapes and extruding them to form a sword.)

but what can i expect with only maybe 8 hours logged on the program so far, hehe. still frustrating.

off to look for more tutorials......

Jaysus, while you are of course correct on the texture front, you failed to mention what you whought of the Chainsaw. I mean, if a weapon as flamboyant as that can be created to work in Oblivion (at least it works on my computer), then i think this can too. Also, you mentioned that if we wanted scabbards then we should draw them? well, here's mine. Fairly simple so as not to totally destroy all machines :P , a simple red velvety color with a fairly simple shape except around the hilt. The only specialities are in the texture, and that isn't bad. I would like it if the dragons could stay outside the scabbard. I don't see any other way to realisticly do it.

claymores need some kind of hand to hold it too lol...

@sabat

be careful with the brezier stuff as youll end up with a hell lot of polygons and faces, better use straightlines to an amount that youll hardly see the corners anymore then atleast you have absolute control over the resulting faces

and ya i agree on oblivion... but once you get a hang of how to modify a game youll see that most games offer that possibility though bethsoft games usually tend to be moddable much easier...

i think it all got really rolling with quake and half life back then, even tho other games offered the possibility yet before the gaming population just wasnt as big

that chainsaw thing doesnt have that many polygins ;) its kinda edgy too...
