boxleitnerb
Hi guys, I'm completely new to this modding thing. I have installed many texture mods in Skyrim but some textures are still low res, for example this one. I marked a location where it can be found: http://www.abload.de/thumb/tesv2012-04-2618-24-0nvqo9.png http://www.abload.de/thumb/tesv2012-04-2619-37-32iqy7.png I would like to replace it, but I cannot find it. I looked at all the dds files in the bsa archives (vanilla and Bethesdas highres texture pack) and in the added textures from several mods in data\textures - to no avail. This texture is often found besides larger rocks (the grey high res pieces are actually from a texture pack). Could someone help me out, please? Edited April 26, 2012 by boxleitnerb
TheDarkPrince
It is probably caused by some mods you have installed. Since I can't know if you already know I will give you a bit of explanation. SKYRIM works like this -> Search for files in BSA (Loading) -> Search for files in Folders (Textures,Meshes, everything). By this it is meant that even if you have a super-mega-high-big-res pack of textures the game will still read the textures folder as main search. I can have a 4k texture in the HDPack released by Bethesda about (let's say) rocks. I have also a few textures of Rocks in the Textures Folder. This makes it so that the game recognize as final texture the one in the folder and over-read the other with this last one. Hope I've been of help. Good luck with your problem! boxleitnerb
But the texture mods install their files in the data\texture folder, right? I know where Skyrim searches first, this is why I looked in both, the bsa files and the texture folder.
TheDarkPrince
yes, usually data\texture. Look into data\textures\terrain or data\textures\landscape or things that has to do with that kind of stuff! Let me know!
boxleitnerb
I think I found it. I identified it by the small green plant:rocksedgetrim01 under textures\landscapeDon't know how I missed it. The original in the bsa file is 512x512, but when I looked in my data\textures folder, there is a higher res (2k) version in there instead. Still looks kind of low res and bad in game. Left is a section of the 2k texture loaded with GIMP, right is the same section (roughly) in the game:http://www.abload.de/thumb/textur_alts9kv6.png http://www.abload.de/thumb/textur_ingame0ij1c.png How would you proceed to improve it?
