Solution for the constant lighting issues?

I'm getting quite sick of the game and it's four-light-limit, making every place look sodding awful. Every time I turn around, lights turn on and off. I'm going to end up having a bloody seizure.

 

Is there anything I can do to sort this out?

I could be wrong, but I want to say I kind of remember seeing a discussion somewhere about how this is a game engine limitation, and that the best we can do is make the lighting look as good as possible.
