Chapter 6, Nipton

It was late in the morning when I finally rose from my mattress. Shiori it seemed had woken long before me and gone to get some food. I stretched and yawned, climbing to my feet with a little help from a window ledge. I walked down the board nailed in place used for a walkway, putting on a pair of shades I found to shield my eyes from the almost noon sun. I walked into the bar and found Shiori sitting at a table.

"There you are. I was beginning to wonder if you had died in your sleep." She remarks dryly.

"Oh shut up. They got anything good to eat here?" I inquire, sitting down.

Shiori shook her head. "Not really, but it's filling. I already got you some food."

She holds out a small bag. Inside were a couple of brahmin steaks and a bottle of purified water. "Thanks." I muttered, and wolfed it down quickly. I nodded at a woman in a cowboy hat on my way out, who seemed to be drinking a bottle of whisky.

"Bit early for that, isn't it?" Shiori remarked to me when we got outside.

I merely nodded and, whilst searching my bag for my newly acquired sunglasses discover a strange gadget I know hadn't been there before. Examining it closer, I find a note attached to it. I glance at the note which says This is a Pip Boy, the Doc wanted you to have it.Hope it comes in useful. Vincent.

"Looks like Vince left me a little present." I remarked to Shiori, pulling the glove over my hand, which resized to fit me, and placed the device over my wrist, which clasped tightly into place. There was a quiet whirring hum, and the screen on my new Pipboy lit up, showing a bioscan of my body.

"I hear it tracks your vitals, rad levels, it can even keep track of and scan your possessions for rads and conditioning. Those vault guys really knew what they were doing, huh?" Shiori says, prodding at it with her finger. "I think he likes you." She says teasingly.

"Shut up!" I snapped half heartedly, too fascinated by the pip boy, and while staring at it I walk straight into a wrecked bus. "Ouch!" I cried, rubbing the top of my head. Shiori snickers at my airheaded moment. We continue down the road, noticing it was surprisingly barren. Normally there would be a raider or two, but it was strangely quiet, until a powder ganger ran past us shouting about a lottery. Exchanging a puzzled look with Shiori, I continue into Nipton, where a gruesome sight meets my eyes. Fortunately I had been upwind from Nipton, so up until now, I had no idea. Everyone in town was dead, some mutilated, but a lot of them on crosses, like pictures in some old books.

A guy dressed like some Roman from an old book walks up to me and says "Behold! This is the power of Caesar! These people defied his will, and refused to loin the legion, and were put to the death! However, Caesar is merciful, and held a lottery. If you won you could leave alive." So that's what he was on about. I thought to myself. "Go now, and spread word about the power of Caesar!" The legion guy and his pals left the town, heading east.

I turned around to see where Shiori had got to, and found her being sick near a burnt house. I walk over and place a hand on her back.

"You ok?" I ask. She nods.

"Yeah, I'll be good once I get out of here." I nod and start walking.

"Then come on! I want to make the next town by nightfall!" We continue down the road, and encounter Victor, wheeling his way along.

"Howdy Pardner! Fancy seein you here!" Shiori narrows her eyes.

"Aren't you that robot from Goodsprings? What are you doing out here?"

Victor turns towards her and says "Don't rightly know. I got the hankering to pick up my spurs and get movin again. So I left Goodsprings, and here I am. You know, Novac is just ahead, you should probaby go to the motel there. Don't want to be out on the road after dark. See you round, pardner!" He turns around and begins wheeling off down the road. Following him, we soon find our way to Novac. I notice someone in the mouth of a giant Dinosaur statue, and wonder who it could be. Victor stops near a metal gate.

"You'll want to head in there if you want a room, pardner! I'll see you after you get a good night's sleep!" He exclaims cheerfully." I walk in and find an older woman behind the counter, pay for the room and walk through the gate to the back complex. After finding the room on the upper floor, I unlock the door with the provided key, and find it's got two beds. I collapse on one and fall asleep, Shiori doing the same on the next bed.

Chapter 7, Novac

I woke up with my mouth tasting like warmed over yesterday, which definitely isn't a good taste to have first thing in the morning. I got up off my bed and went to splash some water on my face in the bathroom, smiling slightly at the cute sleeping form of Shiori. I quietly left the room and went to see if I could get some form of breakfast. I went towards the dinosaur and found a shop inside with some food, ammo and supplies. I purchased rations, some purified water and brahmin steaks, taking them back to the room.

Upon my return, Shiori woke up. She sleepily rubbed her eye with one hand, stretching and yawning before she noticed the food I brought with me. She hopped off her bed and went to get her share of the food from me. We ate in silence, neither of us really having any idea what to talk about. Shortly after, I went around the town, trying to find out if the man who shot me had been through the town recently. After a few inquiries, I discovered he had gone to some place called "Boulder City" and pointed past a junkyard.

I went back to the room to grab my things, and Shiori. Upon arriving at our shared room, I found her partially undressed, changing into new clothes. I tapped my foot impatiently as she changed and dressed, then we both left the town together, heading on towards Boulder City. We passed the junkyard, and were cheerfully greeted by a lady calling herself "Old Lady Gibson." I made small talk while Shiori played with one of the lady's dogs. Oh yeah, did I mention those? There were at least a half dozen of the things.

After we left the scrapyard, we continued on, and after an uneventful trip, we arrived in Boulder City. Found out that there was some sort of hostage situation. Some people from a group called the "NCR" Were being held hostage by the "Great Khans" and we were, surprise surprise, not going to be helped until this situation was resolved. Shiori decided she would work some of her little kid charm, and dragged me along after her to see if we could reason with these Khans. We found the building with the hostages, thanks

to the guards posted outside. She did a bit of sweet talking coupled with the wide eyed innocent look any child, or signifigantly.. um.. endowed woman can pull off, and the guards folded like cheap tin.

We made our way inside, and one of the great Khans approached. He said that none of the NCR would leave alive, unless he and the other Great Khans were given safe passage out of the area. We agreed to relay the message and see what we could do. I made my way back to the NCR officer, and explained the situation.

He agreed to give the Khans passage, if the hostages were freed. We relayed the message and the hostages were freed. The Khans mentioned Benny, and tossed me his lighter, saying if I ever saw him, to shove it where the sun don't shine. He also mentioned that Benny had mentioned the Tops casino in New Vegas. I thanked them, and Shiori and I left Boulder City, and made our way North towards New vegas. The sun was hanging low in the sky, and we decided to stop and make camp for the night. So after we picked a nice sheltered spot, Shiori and I lay down and stared at the stars. As I lay back and watched the countless specks of glimmering light above me, I thought of my travelling companion, the young Shiori. I thought of how she was in a fight, what she'd lost, and what we'd gone through together since we crossed paths that day. I decided, since i didn't know much about her, that I would ask about her,

"Hey, Shiori?" I inquired. She looked over at me, and replied, "Yeah? what?" (TO BE CONTINUED AGAIN, sorry, i've been busy
