I feel horrible.....

SubjectProphet

Recommended Posts

So, around a week ago, a squadmate of mine was shot and killed on service, so as sergeant of the squad, I decided to tell his family the terrible news. His family lived in Souh Carolina, so that's where I am now, enjoying a brief vacation with my wife and still feeling terrible about telling my own friend's family about his death.

So if I suddenly drop out of the forums one day and never return, it's for a good reason. But there's only a slight chance that will happen.

Oh hey, I found a tiny mushroom......

its a terrible job to do, but you didnt kill him

all you are doing is relaying the tragic news. unless you shot him yourself, you arent to blame for his death, and you deserve to see your family, regardless of the reason for you being home

Whats worse than him dying is he died in a place he shouldn't have, should have grown old in his home and such. Its heart wrenching to tell the family of someone you know such things, better someone who knew him than some suit who couldn't care for anything other than his desk job and pension.

Another bloody reason you guys should be marching towards a certain hill rather than in some dusty old desert where oneself has no real business in.

I'm sorry... But no.

Politics aside, you should NEVER diminish the sacrifice that men and women have made in the armed services. To frame it as a wasted life shames all actions this person did protecting the very freedoms that allow you to speak in this way. He died serving his country. His death, while unfortunate, was in the service of his country. He should be praised for his actions of bravery, and remembered for his service. You can disagree with the war, but you have no right to make judgments on his life.

I didn't mean it like that, I honor the fallen regardless of which side they fought on. Ever since the Korean War ended the Government has been throwing soldiers into places that were better off left alone in the first place (Vietnam being a prime example and Afghanistan will probably be in due time). My personal belief is if your going to spill blood, better have a real good reason for the bloodletting.

It could always be worse. You could be a member of the Westboro Baptist Church and picket soldier's funerals calling them f@&#!ts. I can't make this stuff up. And yes, you do deserve time with your family regardless of the reason you being there. Might even be a better time to see them for emotional support. No one ever said being a soldier would be easy, but at least you take your job seriously and were willing to relay the news.

Also, while I don't support the war, I support the troops.

there is only one person on the face of this planet that never cries, and that is CHUCK NORRIS!

if you feel bad, dont hold it in, let out how you feel, and try to honor that man's memory. he died, and you didnt, he deserves to atleast be remembered

Anyone who said men don't cry never went through any emotionally turbulent times. Trust me, no one thinks less of you, and maybe think more of you. Better to cry and be called a wuss then have a heart of stone.

Plus, if someone does give you a hard time for it, you got that Army training, right?

Thank you. My thoughts exactly.

War will always be prevalent as long as there are men on this world. To me, arguing whether or not it "should be" or "should not be" is irrelevant, the important thing is the patriots who have dedicated their lives to protect our country. I couldn't be more proud of the men and women that fight for this country and I would hate for even a single individual to be disrespected, in life or death. They do a dirty job while we are able to sit back and enjoy the benefits of living in an inherently free country. And the sick irony is that Westboro wouldn't even have the OPPORTUNITY let alone RIGHT to picket if it wasn't for these men and women. These individuals deserve respect for their bravery.

Godspeed soldier.
