Scirca
Hello all, i have decided to buy New Vegas again for PC. I am just wondering if i should buy the game on steam and download it or if i should get a disc copy. Is there any problems with modding a disc copy compared to modding the downloaded one from steam? Cause i am buying the game again to have a new experience by modding it, would be unfortunate if i got a disc copy and for some reason there are some hurdles to go over to mod it. Thanks in advance. madmongo
When I bought the game (a long time ago) I bought the Game Of The Year (GOTY) edition, which was on disk. The whole point of buying it on disk was so that I wouldn't have to depend on Steam working, but then the stupid disk ended up installing through Steam anyway, which ticked me off. I don't know if there is a disk version that doesn't run through Steam, so check into that. You might just be getting the Steam version even if you buy it on disk, in which case the only advantage is that you can just install it instead of waiting for it to download. There are different versions of Fallout New Vegas. The difference in the different versions is basically what DLC is included. The base game has no DLC. The GOTY edition has all of the DLC. I see that Steam is now offering the Ultimate Edition, which also includes all of the DLC. I'm kinda curious what the difference is between the GOTY edition and the Ultimate edition since they both seem to include the same things. If you are planning on modding the game, then you definitely want the Ultimate edition since a lot of mods require the DLC to be installed. There is another option available to you, and that is to buy the Ultimate edition through GOG instead of Steam. The nice thing about the GOG version is that it is DRM free, so there's no activation to worry about. You just install it and it works. When the GOG version first came out, there were some issues with some mods like NVSE, but as far as I am aware, those have all been fixed. That said, I don't have the GOG version, so I can't confirm that everything out there works with it. All I can say is that I don't know of any mods that won't work with it. Even TTW works with the GOG version (TTW is a Tale of Two Wastelands, you can google that for more info - it requires you to also have Fallout 3 since it copies files from that game to avoid copyright issues). So, either Steam or GOG, just make sure you get the Ultimate edition.
