3ds Max program

Can anyone help me? I'm looking for 3ds Max, but FREE-not demo the 7 is ok, don't need to be 8.

All I want to do is learn how to use it and actually get a hands on experience, since in fall I will start studying

for my Interior design degree, I figure why not try and get some experience from something I played for such a long time.

I know This sounds like a big BS to talk about, :wallbash: but I AM desperate :wallbash: , if it's not ok to post this, let me know.

If it is not ok, I will try to delete this topic as fast as possible, thank you for your time reading this.

:thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

There is no such thing as 3dsmax for free. It is a professional program that costs a good deal of money. Those who have it either use it in their personal practices, and thus can accept the heafty price tag (over $3,000 for the newest version), or have bought it from someone through e-bay (legal grey area) and really only works for older versions since theyve gone to a subscription based service now (I think).

There was a "free" version called Gmax, except that it didn't allow saving, lacked many components, and was designed for game export. It also may no longer be available.

If free is your price tag, your only real option is Blender. on the plus side, there are a greater number or tutorials available, and there are alot more people around who use it for modding. Learning something like 3dsmax isn't very easy since most of the tutorials are not designed for beginners, and although there are classes available to teach the program to you, they also cost money. Many of those who use it around here either had some basic instruction, or found our own way through alot of trial and error.

I'd say that a local college might be an option for learning the program, but from my own experiences, that really didn't accomplish very much. Put simply, I was teaching more than I was learning, and they were using a more scaled down version of the program, 3d studio VIZ, which meant that some things are either handled differently, or not at all compared to 3dsmax. 3d Studio VIZ however is more designed with architecture and interior design in mind. However, you can't export .nifs from VIZ. Just throwing it out there since you mentioned an interior design. Although as far as interior design goes, you would gain alot more useful skills from learning something like AutoCAD. Although at later stages you may need to do some 3d work, most of your initial stuff will be 2d room layouts and such.

If you're looking to get a handle of 3d work, Blender is probably your best bet. Although it's a different program, many of the same basic concepts are used in both.

If you are talking about warez, you are not allowed to discuss it.

I also use and recommend Blender. I have a special software bundle packaged up and uploaded here at TESNexus with install instructions.

Blender

The other free options are:

GMax

XSI Mod Tool

LHammonds

to be honest max is not very useful for architecture of anykind except you do experimantal stuff.

archicad, nemetschek, autocad are the 3 big architecture players although autocad prolly has the advantage of owning max, maya and basicly every other 3d program around i would avoid em like microsoft if possible they suck! and their architecture program style is just crap... archicad is easiest to understand and the student version is avaible for 100 bucks or somin... you wont find free modelling in there thou... id suggest you get it anyway and use blender for mesh imports...

blender although i just dont get along with it is better imo than max if you ureally wanna do somin freaky... cause you can easily without exporting stuff make walkthroughs with physics by using the gaming part and show me one prof or client that doesnt like that...

another option would be to use (dunno if its yet avaible 2yrs ago they told me they wont make one) the unreal engine editor which is free and supports all kinds of importet meshes

i used it during the first 2 yrs of uni and you can get stunning results this way...

if you intend of going professionel in the modelling industry on the other hand you wont get around max or maya though max is now the biggest player

but aside the above you can always go into the computer rooms of your uni and just work there usually... sometimes they even offer old programs for sale, just ask the admin if he has somin to get rid off...

also as a sidenote... max is used for example by nox which write wonderful scripts for it ;) but theyre as i said more or less experimental architects...
