kurt91 Posted May 1, 2018 Posted May 1, 2018 Does Vortex's method of setting up mods and everything have any effect with how save files are stored and read? When I was trying to get my mods together and working, I was making multiple throwaway characters to make sure that things were working. After everything was finally working how I wanted it, I made my "for-real" character and started playing. However, after a while (getting to Whiterun in Skyrim Special Edition), I found that my entire character was missing when I tried to start my game. The most recent save was the most recent throwaway character I had used. It turns out that somehow my "for-real" character's save files were stored in a folder inside the save folder, and I had to delete all of the loose saves in the save folder, and copy/paste the contents of my "for-real" character's additional folder to the main save folder. If this is somehow something to do with Vortex, such as something to do with being able to switch between profiles, then there's a bit of an issue here. The last time it's happened, I eventually found the fix I described above. Now, for the last couple days, the internet where I live has been a little hit-and-miss, and I've had to do things like completely close and re-open Steam to get access to things like my Wishlist. I looked at Vortex to see if there was any similar issue as far as being logged into my Nexus account, and saw a message stating that some of my saves could no longer be read. I've been busy for a few days, and haven't had the chance to even start Skyrim SE, so I have no idea why this message would suddenly come up. Further, no message like this came up when my earlier issues occurred, so I don't know if the same fix is going to work. Any ideas what's going on, and if it's possibly a bug with Vortex that needs to be dealt with?
Tannin42 Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Vortex has an option on profiles "per-profile savegames". If you enable that, vortex will place savegames in their own directory when this profile is active and those savegames will only be available in-game if that profile is enabled.Other than that: no, vortex doesn't affect savegames.
