Creixhitme
Anyone have anything to say about this? I personally think the time when i find i quest with maderately fine character development in oblivion will be when Hell freezes over.

Sharkull
Sounds like the OP is talking about the +5 character development thing... if so, pick a levelling mod that changes the system to your liking. There are a few out there.

macmert
I think the best levelling and xp system was the one in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines... You get xp for only completing the quests... Only quest xp and at the end you earn xp... Doesnt matter how you accomplish it, if you want run and gun all the way and kill everyone who stands in your way... Or you can sneak past everyone and reach your goal, you decide how you accomplish the quests... That way sneaking PC's are also get the same xp as the runner gunner PC's... tungol
On the contrary, I think Oblivion's character development scheme is quite good. You improve skills by actually using them, which means your character develops in the direction he's being played. Leveling up as a thief (or even assassin) can be hard, because you're only using two skills. (When I played the DB quests, I started at level 10 and went all the way through without leveling once!) But otherwise its pretty good. And for mages, you just CS some practice spells and put them in Edgar's inventory, so you can boost your Alteration while you walk to Chorrol. But as for initial character creation, it could be better. Your stats are almost entirely determined by your race, whereas in reality even twin brothers can differ greatly. If you want to play an unusually charming orc, you shouldn't have to mod a new race. The skill development is great the way it is, but the stat development is, IMHO, terrible. It encourages warped behaviour in order to level your stats effectively (avoiding certain skills while you level certain stats...). This is what I meant by "the +5 character development thing". Fortunately Oblivion is an incredibly mod friendly game, and some skilled modders have provided alternatives to choose from.:)

As you say, a tremendous improvement over vanilla.
