CTD when looting from NPCs

Hi all, I am encountering topic mentioned problem. May I have some advice tackling it?

 

I am running SSE on a Lenovo Y50 laptop, 3rd gen i7 with nvidia GT 570X (not sure, i'm not with my computer rn)

does this happen with all NPCs? does the crash occur when you open their inventory , or when you take items from them?

if it happens when taking items , try instead of taking all , to take items one by one to see which items seems to crash the game

this could be you trying to take a specific modded item that makes the game crash , but we really need more information to try and help you

it happened to all NPC with scale or leather items i suppose. I am still trying it out. What information exactly do i have to provide? I am green to this. Thanks again!

basically try to narrow it down as much as possible

for example , if it's related to a specific type of NPC , or when trying to loot a specific piece or type of item

if you think it's related to a specific item , try spawning it via console and see if you can equip it (or if you'll crash with it in your inventory when trying to open the inventory)

the idea is to try and identify the cause of the crashes , and see if any mod might be responsible for it

Are you using Loot, Xedit ( SSEEdit), and a bash patch?

 

I don't rely on Loot but it can warn of problems and is good at catching load order problems. Xedit could merge inventory of the npcs which might be your problem. The game might expect something to be in their inventory that doesn't exist. However, that wont fix npcs that you already come across. Then bash patches merge level list which probably isn't your problem but it does other useful stuff.

 

Even if this isn't related to your problem you are going to have problems if you aren't using these tools.

Thanks for all your replies! I will try the console method later on, I suspect it's something to do with the armours but which in specific it's unclear. I have been using Loot for a while, but just downloaded Xedit one week ago and have no idea how am I suppose to use it. No bash patch at the moment.

 

Will definitely let you guys know how it goes, I'll need advice when it comes to the solution part anyway :D

Hi all! I am back with the problem unsolved. It happens to be an undiscriminating CTD during loot, it is completely random. I might CTD when looting gold, might happen when looting armour and weapon, might happen looting food or drinks too. I tried adding each and every item I see in the killed NPC's inventory, it is smoothly done without CTD-ing, but when I get back on the corpse trying to loot, boom I am back to my desktop with the game crashed.

 

I also tried to start a new game and there it comes to another issue, the trip with Ulfric and the others was a disaster, and we landed facing the wall, all trapped, the conversation stopped at the random guy who is supposed to be running away and got shot at the back, failed to proceed as we are stuck.

 

I have no idea how all of these happened, LOOT shows no error. SSEedit is not working with me too.

Update:

 

I deleted all saves hoping it is a corrupted save that ruined the game, the intro went well, first loot went well, I took items one by one, nothing happened, then on the second corpse, same things, but I CTD when looting Stormcloak light armour. Seems not the problem of it though, coz the first corpse had identical things except for the weapon.
