Some Mods Suddenly Not Showing

I only just got Skyrim on my PC, since my computer can finally run it (I've been playing on 360 since it came out). I installed it, fixed a couple bugs, added some mods, and was playing just fine. Then my files got all messed up from some mods conflicting, and long story short I ended up just reinstalling (hadn't even left Helgen yet). So I did a clean re-install of Skyrim, and a clean re-install of NMM. Then, I reinstalled some of the mods I was using before my game broke. Just simple ones, like CBBE, ApachiiSkyHair, Horses for Followers...etc. Now, a lot of these mods aren't showing up. The skin and eye mods I downloaded are working, but the hair mods aren't. Since I never passed the character creation stage (since I keep trying to fix it), I don't know what else isn't working.

Every time I open NMM, all of the mods are unchecked on the Plugins tab. I recheck them, and try to load the game again. Yet every time I open NMM, the boxes become unchecked. I also noticed that the "Data Files" option on the Skyrim Launcher is greyed out. But when I was running the game before, I could click on it and see what mods were enabled. I honestly don't know what could have changed.

I have mods enabled in "SkyrimPrefs", the whole bEnableFileSelection=1 thing. And it's marked as Read-Only. I even tried manually installing the mods. And I've restarted my computer multiple times after the re-installs. I have no idea what else to try.

I also was having an issue with certain mods not downloading in NMM (after my third attempt at a clean install). They would get to 100% then give me an error message about the download being incomplete or something. I also got a few other random error messages that caused a crash. But they weren't specific about any error names or numbers. Just that a problem had occurred, then it would crash.

I'm having the same issue. I'm trying to get the Asteria loaded, but even with the NMM, I have no luck. My data files is also grayed out.

So Asteria doesn't work? Add that to the list of files not showing up for me as well.

Do you have NMM set to Run As Administrator? May have nothing to do with anything, but it can't hurt to try it (and that setting often solves problems, particularly with Win 7's "security features").

I AM running it as administrator. My user account (on XP btw) is the admin. So that's not an issue.

I'm wondering if this issue has anything to do with the multiple posts about the NMM error messages.

I meant right click on NMM exe, Comparability Mode, check "Run As Administrator". Just a suggestion. Wasn't sure what operating system you were using.

Installing the game outside the Programs folder may also help, though that's not as imperative with XP. Hope you find an answer.

OKAY! I FIGURED IT OUT!!

Holy crap, I'm so happy. This has taken me DAYS to fix (literally x.x).

So first off, I found a post about a similar problem. And their fix was to open SkyrimPrefs.ini and add some lines under the [Launcher] section. So it would look like this (minus quotes, of course):

"[Launcher]

bEnableFileSelection=1

bShowAllResolutions=1

uLastAspectRatio=3

bLoadLooseFiles=1"

This didn't work for me, but I kept it there anyway.

Next, I found this guide for fixing/changing load order. When I opened my plugins.txt file, NONE of my mods were there on the list. So I opened up NMM, went to the plugins tab, and used that as my guide to manually input each of the plugin names. Then I saved it, and checked it as read-only. That part is crucial. The first time I tried it, I opened Skyrim and it rewrote that file as empty again. Having it as read-only fixed the problem.

Also, I noticed AFTER the fact that there was a loadorder.txt file in the same folder that I could have just copied and pasted >.> Oh well.

When you open NMM after doing this, it will ask to make the file no longer read-only. So NMM can still install the mods, but each time you add one, you'll have to go back to plugins.txt, add the mod, and make it read-only again.

I hope this works for you too!
