buzanen
I tried to edit an existing mod by just changing the damage of a weapon in the creation kit. Surprisingly, Skyrim keeps CTD on the startup after that. I did some research and it's said that CTD on the startup often dues to missing master file. However, I did not change any master file, and I did run LOOT & FNIS after the editing. Anyone knows what's going on? Thanks!
Deleted21550714User
Can you go into game with edited mod not active? Based on what you said we are all gonna feel the same as you, Editing weapon damage shouldn't ctd on start up. Im curious why you ran loot and fnis? did you do that after ctd trying to fix problem of ctd? If your in-between playthroughs and loot changed the load order, which i dont know why it would , that could mess you up.Load all mods into tes5edit and run it. Tes5edit will stop loading if you have missing master and indicate what is needing what, and will tell you if have a mod in your load order that needs another mod in your load order loading before it. Hopefully you will find problem, tes5edit rules... Edited May 15, 2018 by Guest
Deleted21550714User
I went with a premise of.. If you did CK wrk right, which editing weapon damage you should of,and either game ctd prior to running loot and fnis, and,or that's not the fault I came up with 2 ideas. Had you logged off computer since last being in game you might have steam choking on its updates. Google "steam clear download cache" read up on it, I've seen users say it had wrecked there game, I've done easily more than 10 times with no problems. The other idea is your computer updated a program that threw you off.FYI. You could of edited weapon damage a lot easier in.... Tes5edit, I really like Tes5edit Edited May 15, 2018 by Guest

I tried to use TES5Edit to change the weapon damage and it worked perfectly. It turned out that there may be something wrong in the creation kit... Even after restarting my PC, mod edited by ck still cause CTD, and even worse, loading a mod edited by ck will cause ck to stop working as well... I got the ck from steam so I guess there might be something wrong with my ck setting... Anyway, thank you for recommending TES5edit! It works fine and it seems it could do everything ck can do... Grospolina
If that worked, then it's possible that the mod is using an ESP as a master. The CK doesn't allow this even though it does work in-game. It will "helpfully" remove the ESP master when you save. On the other hand, TES5Edit has no problem with it. To see if this is the case, open the mod in TES5Edit, expand it and look in the header section. It should list the masters. There are ways to work around this problem in the CK (using Wrye Bash), but TES5Edit is much easier to use especially if you're just changing values.
