Mod limit at 135, can I get it to go higher

Recommended Posts

So I ended up finding my mod limit at 135. When I go higher I become unable to activate anything so I can't go talk to people or go inside any doors. My console gets this weird red tinge as well, still worked tho. Is there any way to increase that limit or is that just it? I kinda wanted to throw in some more mod missions and some weapons for my next playthrough but it seems my game can't go past this limit.

Not directly. The exact "limit" is a mysterious beast that seems to vary with the exact mixture of mods on a particular system. Eventually, once you hit that limit, you are ready to see the wiki "Merged Plugin Guidelines for Personal Use" article on how to merge plugins (which is not the same as a "merge patch" file) to get your active count down while still keeping the mods. Even this has it's limits, and takes some time, but it does let you get over 200 or so. The key (IMO) is to prioritize what is most important to you and merge "simple" plugins (like weapon and armor additions) that don't depend upon other mods to get the count down.

Ok, actually that leads me to another question I have but it falls more into fallout 4 than new vegas. I was going to post it there later but it does have to do with Merging Plugins. It's pretty much I have a few mods that have multiple .esp's that I figure is there for options. Like ADAM has like 8 or 9 .esp's, can you merge them without trouble or should I not do that? New Vegas I have maybe 2-3 that do it that feel unnecessary but for F04 there's so many that do it, and many of them are mods I don't want to get rid of.

If the ESPs are strictly "options" for the main plugin (e.g. support for various DLCs), then "yes" you can merge them. However, if they are "compatibility patches" to make the main plugin work with other mods, then "no" you need to leave them separate in order to work correctly. There are examples of both situations in that "Merged Plugins" article.

The basics of merging mods and plugins are the same regardless of game. The different tools used (e.g. Mator Smash, Mator Plugin Standalone, and FNVEdit) and what each is used for as well as when they should be used are all discussed as well.
