Poor graphics

I've played skyrim for over 600 hours on high graphics but fancied a break a few weeks ago and have been playing HoI3. I came back a couple of nights ago and it crashed on start-up. I quickly ascertained it was a graphics issue so I set the graphics options to low and it started but was unsatisfactory visually.

The auto graphics button sets it to high and my 3dmark score is a not very impressive P2540 - which should support high resolution.

I've cleaned the registry, defraged the hd and boosted the virtual memory. I read somewhere that an amd driver update was causing problems and bought a better nvidia graphics card and whilst I was at it updated all the drivers.

I've uninstalled my game and reinstalled (jeez - doesn't steam take ages!!!) it all to basic vanilla. I can now get most of the settings to medium with some ok distance visuals, I've even got 4*antialiasing, but it still crashes as soon as I put anything to "High".

Whilst the visuals are better they are not good.

Anyone got any ideas what is causing this or has a solution.

Thanks

JZ

You may benefit from looking at NVidia's GeForce website, which has a gigantic amount of tweaks that cold help you I have an old Nvidia card, and it did wonders for me. For newer cards. you can also find a page that suggests the best settings for your card. Even if you are exactly set up there, the tweaks included settings for your pref.ini and ini files, etc. I've been saing this so much lately people probably think they pay me. (Are you listening, NVidia????) It was the thing that helped me the most, tho, and that is why I suggest it. Especially since you obviously know your way around your computer, I think the more you know the more you can possibly get out of it.

So heres the link:

NVidia tweak Guide

You'll see a link to the optimal settings on the left menu.

Good luck!
