Getting more than one follower in the most vanilla way possible

Recommended Posts

I know that there are many multiple follower mods out there. I want none of them. I have tried them all and they all over complicate things and cause strange bugs. Even Simple multiple followers does and its not even ported to SSE.

I want nothing more than to simply have up to like 5 followers, but none of the bells and whistles the other mods add. I want it to be exactly like the vanilla follower system, just adding more followers. absolutely nothing else tweaked at all. Nothing. There has to be a way to do it. And there obviously is, as there are so many multiple followers mods out there. They just all decided to add a bunch of stuff I donât want.

So how would I go about making my own? Say, I already have a follower, I go up to another and I can click join us and everything about it is vanilla as possible except for I get to have more than one follower.

Any advice or guides to be able to do this would be fantastic. I looked EVERYWHERE on the forums here and other places and the question usually is left unanswered or no one knows how to do it. There has to be a way! I just know there has to.

Thanks guys.

it appears like it's not that simple

from what I've seen , the value that controls this is set to only allow for values of 0 or 1

so the mods that allow more followers change the specific entry to a different type , to allow it to accept different values , and then set the desired value

if you want to understand how it's done , the easiest things would be to either directly ask someone behind one of the mods that do this , or download one of these mods , opening them up in the creation kit or SSEEdit , and trying to find how these changes were made

I know it's not a detailed answer or a guide , but I don't really know how it's done

everything I said is derived from what I just read in the descriptions of mods that allow for multiple companions

I've been curious about this topic by self actually. I see follower mods like Inigo and Recorder as they will follow you even if you have a follower already. I'm curious if that's a script that initiates that or a custom faction. I've been wanting to something as crazy as having a necklace or a ring that when given to a follow-able NPC they will be able to follow you -- regardless if you already have someone with you -- as long as they have the ring they will follow too, but I can't pin point how that will work.

There is no such "Vanilla" thing about this. Follower seems to hardcode into the game (that you can't simply change up a value). I am using AFT and pretty ok with it, although I have yet to try to use its mode in-depth features, only gather around 5 followers running around so far. Not my intention to have 5, but I just want to check out these followers.

I think Recorder still uses follower system. AFT recognizes her and put her into its management system without even asking me. I can be wrong though. I think those mods not using the vanilla follower system are Inigo and Sofia. There is nothing simple about them. The creators went through great length to make sure they function well as a follower without being in the follower faction. IMO, it is simpler to stick with Vanilla (and the mod that extends Vanilla follower system). No, I am not discouraging anyone trying to make a follower like Inigo. I would love to see more followers like him. But whoever dives into this needs to know it is going to be a lot of work.

Interesting! Thanks for the input on this. I thought it would be a simple getinfaction script or something but after looking at Inigo's scripts and Sophia's, you're right, it's totally complicated. It's a little beyond me right now.
