Fileplanet shutting down

I didn't see any topic about this, and it seemed like pertinent news, so here's a topic.

 

Gaming download FilePlanet is shutting down soon. Parent company IGN has revealed that they are no longer updating the site. Eventually they'll take it down as well.

 

"We believe that the idea of a single-purpose PC download site like FilePlanet is one that, unfortunately, has passed."

I remember struggling with Fileplanet five years ago. The concept was good, but the procedure to upload files was annoying and downloding them involved a neverending barrage of advertising.

 

Today we have Steam and automated patches so noone cares about Fileplanet anymore. They should have upgraded to an online purchase platform like Steam back when they were big and Steam was nothing.
