QuagaarWarrior
I would also recommend buying the best graphics card you can afford. If you can afford 1080ti then go for it. If you dont push it to the limit in Skyrim some other game will come along that does. You may want to wait for the next batch of cards though. Meant to be landing in the next couple of months with up to 16gb DDR6 VRAM Edited May 30, 2018 by QuagaarWarrior

Screw the idea of "just enough" power :P
jones177
Hi First you need to decide what resolution you want to play at. For 4k resolution I use a i7 6700k CPU with a GTX 1080 ti. It struggles to maintain 60fps with ENB/Reshade. If I was going to use 4k textures I would update the CPU to a i7 8700k. The 1080 ti can handle the textures but my i7 6700k is not powerful enough to feed it & keep the game totally smooth. For 1440/SW resolution I use a i7 8700k with a GTX 1080. It has no problem maintaining 60fps with ENB/Reshade & it is a totally smooth experience. This week I updated the GTX 1080 to a 1080 ti. With this game, at this resolution, with my ENB/Reshade settings it is a waist. This game looks so much better at 1440 resolution than 1080 resolution that I cannot recommend building a rig for that. For a minimum build for 1440 go with a GTX 1070 or used GTX 980 ti. For CPU any Ryzen 5/7 or modern i7 or 6 core i5 will do. I also recommend that the game be put on a SSD. Prospero1980
First my actual Rig. I build it 2010 and choosed the parts to last long and for later OC, what I do now. i7 960 @4.25 GHZ OC16 Gb Corsair Vengance @1700 mhz Asus Rampage II gene Gtx 970 ssc with 4 GB (3,5 GB) @ 1450 mhz OC Windows 10 and Games on Samsung SSD Do you really need a 8700k sixcore for skyrim SE? I thought it only uses 4 cores? My Problem atm is, that my modded skyrim runs out of vram but I dontt think that my cpu could be a bottleneck. It think it never runs at 100 % ingame. The thing with 4k gaming is, that I would need a new monitor too. A new monitor and a new GPU and ,if youâre right with the cpu, a complete new system is very much money. I would end up with 3000Euros.. I have an 2560x1080 Widescreen monitor from Asus. Should I really change it and again end up with less than 60 fps on highend parts.... mhhhh Edited June 1, 2018 by Prospero1980
kthompsen
Your CPU is more than fine. You surely don't need a 8700k. And whether you want to play 4k or not is up to you. 2560 is more than fine. So is 1080.

I like large battles with lots of NPCs. With my i7 6700k computer these battles can drop the frame rate into to the 30s & sometime single figures. That usually means a CTD. With the i7 8700k frame rate stays at 60. It probably has more to do with the higher IPC than the extra cores. CPU usage in this game can be deceiving. On SE & LE with a 4 core CPU you will start to loose frame rate at over 25% usage. With a 6 core 17% usage. When I get up to 95% usage I am at 15fps. Also the higher the IPC of the CPU the higher the lows in the game. On average the lows with my i7 2600k were in the 30s. With my i7 6700k they are in the high 40s. With the i7 8700k they are in the 60s. For the type of modding I do I need the i7 8700k. I am hoping that the announced 8 core i7 will have even higher IPC. If it doesn't I won't buy it.
