Online Fallout: 76

I'm praying this will not be the end of Single Player Fallout the way Rockstar killed the SP mode in GTA V with GTAO.

That being said, now on to what I see as a Big Catch 22:

is it true that Bethesda will be restricting mod release to the cancer that is CC? What about restriction to only vanilla game assests (i.e no use of 3rd party graphical tools to create content)? Because if so, it seems they're finally making their hostile takeover of the modding scene official --- and obnoxiously pushing Nexusmods out of the limelight in a historic power play..... Yikes

So should Creation Club be intended to serve as the exclusive? means of official Beth mods in the future: does this mean mods of existing ones on CC CANNOT be created & uploaded on the Nexusmods?

i.e. if say an armor is uploaded to CC, can a different modder recreate it from scratch (using only vanilla game resources) and upload it here? This would be similar to the Skyrim Backpack mod which is eerily similar to Chesko's backpack mod from Campfire.

May the God of Fortune preserve the PC platform. It was clear to me that Bethesda's pro console game design format (eg the dialogue menu) and hard coding of controls was a push to integrate the more lucrative console community. This type of pro console architecture game design does not bode well for PC gaming in the future.

I tried out ESO, and the community drove me away faster than the game itself and that's really what makes or breaks online games for me these days. If the players are insufferable, I wont stick around long. Having their own little circle jerk of idiots that feel they are better than everyone else is no problem for me, I don't have to deal with them. However, when I'm forced into groups with randoms, and these randoms are usually disgruntled people playing a game they seriously don't like(masochistic), it's a toss up rather I'll have an enjoyable experience. Sadly, it usually isn't.

That said, I'm interested.. if it's not an online Fallout.

I'm hoping you're right on this. But I'm getting the same feeling of unease that I had years ago when GTAO was just about to be released. Many fan boys like myself were feeling disenfranchised with the superficial monstrosity that Single Player GTA V turned out to be. It was basically an expensive $60 license key & tutorial to play GTAO --where all the decent DLC content was ridiculously overpriced (thanks to modders/hackers inflating the game economy). Content that had been locked away behind loot boxes called shark cards. From that point onwards, Rockstar began to microtransaction the GTA franchise to death. Quality was replaced by superfiical quantity. Variations of the same theme in terms of missions, vehicles.

Any GTA SA sandbox/immersion RPG game play went the way of the dinosaur as Single Player PvE mindset gamers like myself were being phased out by the middle school and up Rugrats, CoD/FPS gamers. All these PvP mindset gamers cared about--and still care about to date--is the fastest way to level up, gain XP to acquire material wealth/goods etc. Today, GTAO is a cesspool of modders/hackers, psychotic, anti social 8th graders, emotionally immature Man-Children, and completely skill set inept randoms who are dumber than bricks. But with whom Rockstar continually forces you to team up with on missions etc. Because these @$$hats have completely destroyed the game economy gltiching/hacking money which has driven the cost of underwear into the stratosphere.

Which leaves you--the PvE minded/Single Player gamer--stuck wasting your time, hard earned game currency, health, armor/ammo trying to play the game the way it was designed....forced to play with the majority of the fan base which is chronologically or emotionally immature. Or Both. And to whom cheating with mods/hacks is second nature.

And these Village Idiots are supposedly on your Friends list......

I see the exact same thing happening with Vault 76 if this is designated to be online. Because it's already happening with TESO. And we know PvP will end up being the default gameplay mode the moment Player 1 meets Player 2 in an online setting... and both realize they're being set up to compete for a limited amount of resources. F@ck teamwork or collaboration on anything. It's Darwinian time baby.

So I'm filled with both excited anticipation and yet absolute DREAD for this game come E3.

Don't care. I never play online games. And what has taking the franchise online to do with mods for FO4 or the Elder Scrolls series? Personally, I think that off-line games will still get developed in both series.

You need to 100% care as a PC gamer. We're the MINORITY in the gaming community. Yet the platform which produces 100% of the game's longevity by means of free advertising for Bethesda through free mods.

The console gaming community will be 100% on board with this if Bethesda markets it as an online game. IMO Bethesda is looking for a market competitor that can hold its own against the numbers that DOTA and GTAO command on Steam on a daily basis. And Steam is just a small fraction of the PC gaming community. It does NOT factor in the console gamer massess. Where Bethesda's GOTY record breaking stats reside. Even without mods, I suspect the console gaming community will provide Bethesda with a steady stream of income the way TESO, DOTA and GTAO are currently successful. And since Bethesda now appears to be setting the foundations to control the sourcing of the franchise mods (possibly into the future for TES & Fallout) they're going to use CC as the dangled carrot to keep players interested. Well at least the console gamers, who lack the inherent capacity to get mods from another source.

This is already being done with TESO and GTAO. So yes you need to care. Because if Bethesda can achieve daily player base online numbers the likes of DOTA and ESO, then--similar to Rockstar--it's quite feasible they may abandon the Single Player genre eintirely, for the more profitable, greener pastures of online. Just like Rockstar has with GTAO.

edit: FO4 is the default 64bit analog to SSE. Still unsatisfied, then they had to go add Fallout VR. Good lord. The fact they're diluting the Fallout franchise with a potential online component--yet ANOTHER form of the franchise--makes things even worse. It's almost as though they've lost it. And are now basically trying to nickel and dime everything to death via micro-transactions & in game Lootboxes----in true Exceptional Asshole style

Playing in coop mode might not be so bad, imagine the fun and stimulating dialogue you would have with 12-13-year-old fellow coop players in shooting West Virginia coal mining ghouls or deciding to build a base together.

Having no mods allowed outside of those sold by the Creation Club could also be an adventure. Need to buy new skins in order to stay in good with your young co-players.

Wow. Can you post the url with that phrase? Did it actually come from a Bethesda official? Surely NOT Todd Howard???

edit: Why can't I shake the feeling that enforcing this online component-- on what is clearly A SINGLE PLAYER OFF LINE GAME--will bite Bethesda in the rear? Why does this remind me of the subsequent fan base PR fallout with eagerly anticipated titles like SWTOR and Sim City 5? And PR fan base fallout with sandbox games like The Sims 3?

When will Bethesda acknowledge there is a reason why Gary's Mod has yet to fall out of the top 20 on Steam's top 100 PC games ranking list to date? Which is even more mind boggling because Gary's Mod isn't even a real game! Or the fact that Skyrim (combined with SSE) has yet to fall out of Steams top 30 of 100 games to date?

It now appears Bethesda has finally starting down that slippery slope on a dark road to Purgatory that the Exceptional Assholes have well traveled to date. This does NOT bode well for Bethesda in the future

Wow. I was so excited for another Beth single player sandbox. All I play is whatever the latest FO and ES are. I was stoked for a new one. Now, I'm worried. My two cents is that I hope everyone here is wrong, wrong, WRONG!

I can hope, right?

I doubt it. Sounds too executive-ish, and Todd is not an executive. Bethesda is a business, and BGS is just a branch of that business. I feel they are being pushed by execs to move away from previous models and head towards micromanagement.

Yeah I know all about GTAO. Before diving into it, I did a TON of reading from people in the GTA forums, just to gauge the kind of attitudes I'd be dealing with. That's what I do with any online game I might want to try: gotta see what kind of people I'd potentially be dealing with first. I ended up never setting foot online. I thought GTA5 was nice though. Last online game I played was FFXIV, for about 4 years. I ended up leaving that after I got cussed out for not "pulling big" even though I was stopped by a wall and had to wait for it to drop. When you're a tank or healer, you get much more verbal abuse if you're not 1. Perfect 2. Play the way they want you to play. Also FFXIV is slowly heading towards microtransactions(and notably the director IS an executive).

It's waaaay too early to tell though and BGS is not known to being vocal with their fan base, but I know deep down the direction these guys are being forced to take taking is a direction they don't prefer to go down, but they gotta do it.

There are more kids with mommies credit card and a console than there are Modders.

Creation Club will be the future of the monetization model and modding for beth games will die. IMHO You can thank the modders who joined the Creation Club for helping to sell us out.
