Acired
Hi there all! I'm new to Skyrim and Skyrim Modding, though I did a lot of mod installations in Fallout 4 and seemed to do alright with most minor debugging there. But Skyrim seems to behave much more finicky and I am near the end of my rope trying to sort out things for my installation. I've been reading and trying out the suggestions in other threads here, using tools such as LOOT and Wrye Smash. I've downloaded SSEEDIT and Fallrim Tools as well, though SSEEdit is a bit beyond my initial comprehension diving in. I thought I had a decently solid installation, as I was running thing alright but lately I run into errors in certain areas that are causing CTD's, like entering Solitude. It's not my first time there, and I think I may have even had a dragon attack inside the city prior... but now once I start walking a little past the entry area, right around first two shop doorways, BOOM! CTD. That's when I realized that Skyrim seems to be much pickier about load orders than tools like NMM and LOOT can handle. I started trying to organize based on mod notes and in Wrye Smash, I've got about a dozen orange checkboxes that I cannot seem to find where they need to go. Can anyone take a look and help me figure this out? My rig is an ACER Predator 17, with Intel i7-6700 HQ @ GH, 32 G RAM, Nvidia GTX 1070. QuagaarWarrior
Not too familiar with a lot of these mods so my advice will be pretty limited unfortunately. Are you using the latest version of SSE Engine fixes? Not sure I like your load order to be honest. If I get time later this evening will take another look Edited June 1, 2018 by QuagaarWarrior
hielkeskyrim
I have modded both games and i can honestly say, skyrim is way easier to mod. First, your system is good enough to handle about 150-200 mods on 1080p at 60 fps if you treat it well. Tip number one, throw NMM in the bin and download MO2, thank me later. MO2 is the most comprehensive modding tool out there and is well worth the learning process. There are many YT guides our there, so even your sister could learn it! That's it really... MO2 will solve 90% of your load order issues, honestly. I could give you super indebt load order details and advise but that takes a lot of effort on my part. If you still experience a lot of problems after using MO2 I am more than happy to help.
Acired
I feel stupid for somehow missing the responses, sorry for being slow to respond back. I also feel stupid because I can't figure out MO, and perhaps I am being overly cautious but I was told by friends that it can ruin your saved games and mod loads. Is it really better than NMM or going to Vortex? Also not sure what is SSE Engine Fixes? I only found the utilities I listed above. Is that another one that I need to use? I feel kind of overwhelmed at this point... :-(
hielkeskyrim
First, you're not stupid you're just new to these kinds of things. MO2 is really easy if you follow a tutorial. And yes, it is 100% better than NMM. And I have never heard of Vortex. I would recommend watching this series:
TheMalazan
I would second the previous advice about MO. Just make sure it's MO 2.1.*. The current functions are basically the same as what's in the GamerPoets tutorial. There are other tutorials out there as well--Gopher's is a good one. Under the 'Modder's Resource and Tutorial' section you'll find a few load order and installation guides. I don't follow any one of them 100%, but after studying them for a while you'll pick up some important basics that will save you a lot of grief in the future. I would recommend you learn how to use two very important utilities. First, MatorSmash. A MatorSmash patch is superior to a Wrye Bash patch, imo. Also, given your current predicament, I would advise you to download and install Fallrim Tools. Once installed, run ReSaver and clear out any unattached scripts. Again, there are tutorials on YouTube which will guide you in how to use the utility. It's pretty basic, though, and you should be able to grasp its use in less than 10 minutes. QuagaarWarrior
I dont know how migrating to Mod Organiser 2 will affect your current save and play through. If you do change over be prepared to lose your save. That may not happen but prepare for the worst and all that.SSE Engine Fixes is a mod that fixes a few problems SSE has. Essential mod for me. Just search for it on nexus. Installation is easy but any questions just ask
Singustromo
I have done the migration to Mod Organizer recently. If you install the same mods you don't have issues. This manager is pretty straight forward. It behaves smooth and you can dis-/enable mods without a problem with one mouse click. In the case you remove a mod permanently which includes scripts. I often tried the Fallrim Tools but I dont acutally know if these really work. Edited June 9, 2018 by Reboot21

Installation is easy but any questions just askHe wouldn't lose his save necessarily, but if he wants to continue playing from that point he'd have to install everything in the same order he had before, which would be tricky. I agree with you on SSE Engine Fixes. Definitely good to have that installed. I have done the migration to Mod Organizer recently. If you install the same mods you don't have issues. This manager is pretty straight forward. It behaves smooth and you can dis-/enable mods without a problem with one mouse click. In the case you remove a mod permanently which includes scripts. I often tried the Fallrim Tools but I dont acutally know if these really work.It works in a couple of ways. First is the more obvious use of cleaning up after removal of a mod. Getting rid of unattached instances and null refs can keep one out of a lot of trouble. The second reason is to gauge how well the install order and compatibility between mods is working. If one continually finds those two problems in each save it means there's a problem which will likely worsen over time.
hielkeskyrim
@Acired don't allow yourself to be discouraged by too much information. Make your decision on whether you want to switch to MO2 or not and then follow the appropriate steps. After a long fight with NMM, I said f*#@ it and did a completely clean install after which I started using MO2 with fresh new saves. Now I'm done modding and I can say: It was a lot of work, but it's 100% worth it in my opinion.
