Resolution for 1440 monitor problem.

I recently bought a new monitor with 2560-1440 resolution and have been trying to adapt to SSE ever since. I can run oldrim at 1920-1080 and it runs well. However when it comes to SSE I have only been able to run it at 1280-800 successfully. When I try to force a higher resolution, even 1920-1080, I cannot get a full screen. What I get is a partial screen offset and the higher the resolution I try the smaller the screen.

While I can run the game at that resolution and it looks pretty good and runs smoothly I feel like I am not getting my moneys worth out of my monitor; it took me almost a year to save up for the damn thing and in some way I feel cheated when it comes to SSE.

Would really appreciate some advice on how to run a full screen border-less game at a higher resolution.

https://winaero.com/blog/fallout4-set-a-non-standard-display-resolution/

this helped me with the 3440*1440

I just changed the following lines:

bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1440
iSize W=3440

Issue is the ui sometimes. the scope kinda looks like it doesnt fit and you should not tab out the game this will mess up the UI (when first pause the game with ESC it works most of the time).

Got it to work with.

bBorderless=0

bFullscreen=0

iSize H=1440

iSize W=2560

With bBorderless=1 I still get the full screen off center. Even with this at the very top of the screen is a very narrow blue border with Skyrim Special Edition in the left on the strip. Still this is very playable and looks very good.

And this mod will really help

Complete Widescreen Fix for Vanilla and SkyUI 2.2 and 5.2 SE

You need SkyUI. Well, if you are playing Skyrim you can't get away from this mod, like avoiding anything "Made in China", impossible. And the above mod is to make SkyUI and the game work nicely with your monitor. I am using 2560x1080 and everything works great on my side (except custom load screens, nobody ever makes any mod for wide screen players).

Hi

A standard 1440 monitor is 2560 X 1440 it has the same aspect ratio as a 1920 X 1080, 16:9. Even 4k(3840X2160) monitors have the same aspect ratio as a standard 1080 monitor.

A standard wide screen monitor has an aspect ratio of 21:9. Morrowind, Skyrim SE/LE & Fallout 4 are the only non DosBox games I have to type in the resolution at 21:9.

This game, Skyrim LE & Fallout 4 all have issues on Windows 7 with non standard monitors. To get around this I get the monitor drives from the manufacturers website.

So far on Windows 10 I have had no issue but I still use the monitor drivers.

This makes me angry for the simple reason that old titles like Fallout 3 & Oblivion don't have these issues.

For anyone that has a GTX 1060 6gb or better get a 1440 monitor. Once you have one it is hard to playing with less resolution.

I also have the game on a computer with a 4k monitor. The difference between 1440 & 4k is minimal. 1440 is the sweet spot.

Will try this and get back to say whether it worked for me or not.

Thank you for the reply and link. I will substitute 1440 for 1080, if that does not work will try 1080.

Thank you Jones for explaining to me what exactly was happening. If this mod does not work perhaps you could explain how to change the aspect ratio on my monitor.

Mod made no difference. Went back to original as using 1080 and bBorderless=1 was unplayable; 1440 and bBorderless=1 also unplayable; 1080 and bBorederless=0 also unplayable. The only thing that is playable is as noted in my older posts.

Pinning my hopes on Jones explaining to me how to change the aspect ratio on my monitor, and what to change it to.

I have a Asus ROG Swift PG 279 Q 2T monitor. My OS is Windows 7 HP SP1.

Windows 7 can be a bit of a nightmare with SE.

First install the monitor drivers.

Next, make sure that your desktop resolution is the same as your Skyrim resolution.

bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=1

This is what works for me.

You have a 16:9 monitor. It is not a wide screen monitor so make sure the mod is uninstalled.

If you have a decent video card(1070 & up) you will need to clamp your frame rate. I use ENB for this. This is a 60hz game & even at 80fps things can get nutty.

Basically all your problems are from Windows 7.

Actually I can run oldrim at 2560 X 1440 with no problems; I cap my fps in ENBoost with oldrim. It is SSE that I have a problem with when I try to run it at my monitors native resolution.

I visited the Asus site and downloaded the the two drivers for my monitor, the multiframe and the G 279_WHQL_Driver. I am not sure which driver I should install, or if I should install both. The G 279 seems specific to my monitor while the multiframe seems generic.

My video card is a GTX 970 4gb so my problem would be a slow fps, certainly not one that is too fast in SSE, although I have had that problem in oldrim.

I would upgrade to Windows 10 but I am reluctant to because I have a number of older games some of which run in a DOS box and I do not know if Windows 10 will support a DOS box.

Hi

I run my Dosbox games on Win 10 & have less issues than what I had on Win 7. The only game stopping me from upgrading is this one. For some strange reason I am getting permanent CTDs in some areas on my win 10 computer. I have the same mods & load list on my Win 7 computer & the CTDs don't exist on it.

I had a 970 when they first came out. It could run Skyrim at 4k resolution at over 60fps. With ENB it struggled to stay in the 40s at 1080 resolution.

I had lots of micro stutter with the 970 & quickly replaced it with a 980. I don't blame the 970 for the stutter because when it was put in another computer it was fine. I learned from it that your motherboard choice plays a big part in whether you get micro stutter & screen tear. Paying a extra $70 on a motherboard saves me from spending an extra $200 on a monitor.

I am going to describe my resolution problem with this game so we can see if we are on the same page.

On Windows 7, if I have the desktop resolution at 2560 X 1440 & set the game to 2560 X 1440, if I select windowed mode the game loads in the top left hand corner at 1080 resolution. The mouse & keyboard think the game is at 2560 X 1440 so the game is unplayable. Only if I uncheck windowed mode does the game load in properly.

If I have the desktop set to 1920 X 1080 and set the game to 2560 X 1440 only the top, left part of the game is visible. Unplayable. If I uncheck windowed mode the game loads in properly.

This has happened on 3 computers in my household running Windows 7. It only happens with Skyrim SE & Fallout 4.

I uninstalled SSE to make a clean install. That meant I used Revo uninstaller so I got everything, registry entries, app data, the works. Then I deleted The Steam app cache, the Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim Special Edition folder, and the My Documents/My Games/Skyrim Special Edition folder. I also deleted the C:/Games/Nexus Mod Manager/Skyrim Special Edition folder.

When I reinstalled SSE and ran it with no mods but the Unofficial Patch and SkyUI launching from SKSE64 it ran full screen with no problem with this configuration in my pref.ini.

bBorderless=1

bFull Screen=1

iSize H=1440

iSize W=2560

I did have some stutter which I did not have before when running at a lower resolution. I do not know what changed which is rather frustrating; it may be connected to the aspect ratio which is 16.9 in oldrim and 16.9 grayed out in SSE Options. Interestingly in oldrim I do not have a bBorderless line and I have never had a problem running it at 1440 X 2560, although once again I have had some stutter.
