Oblivion itself wont work on any computer i use.

Recommended Posts

I've tried opening the game on the two computers available here at home but the game doesnt work on either. when i open the game, sometimes it will let me get to the main game menu and open a new game/old save but the screens goes black. (when i make a new character, it'll show the creation menu but nothing else.)

plus, the game launcher is recognized as unsafe by the computers so i cant add any mods to the game either.

I've thought about whether or not is has to do with the #-bit the game is vs the computer's software. i did notice that after the last Windows update, the game started this mess. but i don't know if that is what caused it.

any and all information will help me a lot.

(i also remember making a similar thread before but i could not find it.)

Hi there.

1. Have you tried rolling back the windows update?, If you are on win 10 pro you can block future updates as long as you want with policy group editor (Otherwise you'll just get updated again).

2. Have you tried the different compability settings for the Oblivion.exe file?, Right click on Oblivion.exe and try the different settings under compabillity (Remember to also check the "Run as administrator box.

3. Have you tried to reinstall Oblivion?.

4. Your launcher is unsafe???? (That sounds strange), Maybe it's blocked by your antivirus software or windows firewall itself (Which is hard to believe), Unless you picked the game from some shady place on the net.

5. If you're using mods you should also use a mod-manager like NMM or Wrye bash (Or both)

  1. well, neither of the computers are mine and i doubt that their owners' would want to deal with that.
  2. didnt know that was an option that existed. but idk if it would work. edit: i just tried it and it didnt work when i tried troubleshooting its compatibility.
  3. many times. each ended the same.
  4. i did grab the copy i have now from a torrent site but my brother has his own copy (from the disc release) and it does the same.
  5. ive never used neither of them but it seems i may have to use NMM if i could get the game to work

thank you millions for the response default_wub.png

lemme bookmark this real quick default_wub.png

It might be that you don't have the correct version of DirectX installed.

Windows 10 doesn't come with the older versions of DIRECTX

Your brother's disc version will have a folder called DXREDIST, you should look there and run DXSETUP.exe

Or you could go the the Microsoft site https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 and download the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)

to a temporary folder on your desktop, then scroll down until you see DXSETUP.exe and run that.

Once it says installation complete, you can delete the temporary folder.

This won't effect any newer versions of DIRECTX already on the system.

Don't worry about blocking windows 10 updates with policy group editor (It's perfectly legal and an integrated part of Windows 10 pro), It's mainly business related and a tool to prevent something from going wrong when you update, I blocked it for 2 years.

You are not the only one having problems with Oblivion, After i updated Win 10 the the creators fall update, Oblivion will only auto-detect my hardware on medium settings and i simply can't find a solution for it?.

Rolled back just to find out that nothing had changed, Before i updated it ran buttersmooth now the gamle lags and my cpu and gpu's overloads and heats up for no apparent reason.

thank your for at least trying to do the roll back. i wasn't going to do that because both of the people that own these computers said absolutely not.

but the fact that (bolded) happened seems kinda odd tbh.
