Red tint effect -Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Ed on PC

Recommended Posts

Hi, hope someone can assist:

I am experiencing a red-purple tint effect on many items, including armor (e.g. Viva La Orlais's mage robe showing up purple tinted, when they are in fact black); faces (e.g. Lily from Mage Origin has dark rings under her eyes when using Dragon Age Redesigned).

The only texture mod I used, but uninstalled, was JB3. Made no difference.

I tried turning off anti-aliasing and using FXAA Tool from Nexus, but again no change.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

I have a PC and graphics card way above requirements for the game, and when I previously played DA:O on the same PC did not experience this.

Thanks!

The most recent version of JB3 includes 'high resolution' replacement skin textures, which are 'grainy' and add the dark circles around the eyes

Just remove the skin textures from the JB3 folder.

The skin textures are:
uh_hed_dwfa_0d.dds
uh_hed_elfa_0d.dds
uh_hed_fema_0d.dds
uh_hed_infa_0d.dds
uh_hed_masa_0d.dds
uh_hed_olda_0d.dds
uh_hed_quna_0d.dds
uh_hed_sica_0d.dds

And there is also an eye texture that a lot of people complain about; that one is:
pn_eye_nrma_0t.dds

If that doesn't resolve the cosmetic issue, search your override folder for other mods which include those textures, and try removing them... DA Redesigned doesn't replace any texures, it only adds some new textures, used only by some of that mod's morphs. (Lily is not one of them, at least not in the 'Recommended' version of the DAR install... her morph actually uses a blend of two Bioware texures, which would be replaced by JB3.)

I used DA Redesigned, and this is what she looked like in my game (with apologies as always for both the poor quality image, and for stinkin' up the place with my ugly Warden):

And the red tinted gear bit of your query has me stumped.

Is the issue only with items from a specific mod, or with all equipment?

If the former, the only thing I can think of is that the items are using material progression tinting from the vanilla game... there's a Leather tint that's very red (one of the middle scale tiers, can't remember which one), Red Steel is bright red, and Dragonbone/Dragonthorn, darker red or pink, depending on the item.

Thanks for the help (as always)

I don't have any of those skin textures. I did remove JB3. Do the textures persist? I assumed (since it has no .erf etc, that it immediately reverts to vanilla when removed).

The robes thing is really weird. In the inventory screen it shows correctly as black, but in game it appears purple-ish. I have only been in the mage's tower, so wonder if it is a lighting thing, but as I do not have any environmental mods that alter lighting it seems bizarre.

Will see what happens as the game progresses

Nope, textures don't persist, so I'm at a loss as to what's up with poor Lily. *sad face*

Are all the items that are displaying incorrectly (red/purple tint) from the same mod, or is items from multiple mods? And does the issue affect vanilla items as well?

No, different mods. In fact, only one that I have really noticed. I have made my own Mage of Ferelden IA, where I incorporate several mods (Robes of the Four ,The Witcher 3, Back to Ferelden, Loin Cloth Fashion - all not affected, Viva La Orlais - affected)

I have looked at the .utc of the affected robes (Mage robes), and there is no tint overlay, so, yes, a mystery. Such a nice looking robe too.

I'm confused... is the issue only with files originally from one mod, or from multiple mods?

If it's the former, I'll try to download the relevant mod and take a look at the files (as best I can... DAO won't run on my PC, so my troubleshooting toolbox is really limited!).

And also, what is the affected UTI file name for the 'Mage Robes' in question, so I don't have to through all the mod files, since it looks like there are quite a few items included.

Viva La Orlais

https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/4370?tab=description

Model name: req_mage_coat.uti

Thanks.

To clarify: it seems (so far) that only this one item from one mod looks affected.

But I also have the facial texture issue that affects Lily. Probably not worth all the effort. She plays such a minor role. Just my ocd playing up

Could it be a Direct X issue? I have Direct X12 I believe, and many mods refer to Direct X9

I took a quick look at the textures, and the 'black' of the coat seems to have a reddish cast, though I'm not sure it would be enough to make it appear distinctly red/purple in-game.

The ambient lighting in some areas of the Circle tower is on the orange/red side of the spectrum... perhaps that's just pushing the red undertones of the texture? *scratches head*

Re Lily, I really am stumped, since her DA Redesigned morph uses vanilla textures (uh_hed_fema_0d.dds and uh_hed_olda_0d.dds).

I apologize for not being more helpful... hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will come along with some insight.

@tsm; Really? Your rig won't run an almost nine year-old game? What's the issue? Disk space? Video card?

I have some spares if you need.

There's was some kind of issue with the recent drivers for my AMD GPU and DAO... the game loads to a black screen, with sound, but no load menu or cursor.
