What's A Good Way to Record Skyrim

Hey, guys. I noticed that there are a lot of mods that are said to increase Skyrim's difficulty, some by a little, some by a lot. Also, I see a lot of realism mods, too. So, while balancing this idea with making my WoW mod, I was thinking, I could do a nice little challenge, and upload my playthrough on youtube. My idea was:

Download 5 mods that are said to increase Skyrim's difficulty

So far I've considered Deadly Dragons, Deadly Combat and PISE. Need two more. Any recs welcome.

Download 2-10 mods that increase realism

Keep in mind this would mean any mod said to increase the realism of ANYTHING in the game, meaning the game itself, or certain aspects of the game. So, I was thinking: Realistic Ragdolls and Force, Total Realism Overhaul, Realistic Running Speed, Killable Children - No Race Menu, Armed to the Teeth, Craftable Arrows, and Realistic Lighting With Customization.

Next step with this brutal playthrough is to, yes, set the difficulty to Master. Another thing to keep in mind: hardest difficulty I have beaten the game on is Adept, which is two levels lower than vanilla Master. Master with these mods surely is going to be a challenge. LOL.

Now, this sounds like a pretty good idea to me, but whether or not I can do it depends on one thing: Whether or not I can record it. So, how can I record it? I would prefer a method that would work with my laptop being plugged into a tv, but it's not greatly needed. TY And, tell me what you think about my video series idea. :)

I use Fraps for all of my screenshot and video recording purposes. However, the free version of Fraps can only record 30 seconds at a time (obviously will not work for your purpose), but I believe the paid version has unlimited recording time, though I don't know how much it costs. I have also heard of others, such as Gamecam and Playclaw, but I have never used those, and from posts that I have seen on other forums, most people seem to recommend Fraps.

As for your idea for the video series, it sounds like an extraordinary challenge that could be quite entertaining to watch.

I understand that Fraps is the standard for recording games, good quality recordings as well even though the file sizes can become big. I also use Hypercam2 which can record your screen and anytime and not just with open applications, it can only handle a certain screensize however and isnt as pratical for recording games like Skyrim. Both come with a watermark i think which appears unless your purchase the full versions.

KK TY for the suggestions as to how to record. I'll check some of them out. I'd want to get a vid of my mod out soon, as well, anyways, so even if I don't make the series (I think the name'd be 'Skyrim: Hardcore Master') I can still try and get some mod videos in. TY again. Also, anyone have recs for two more combat difficulty mods I can use? Cya

Well, I messed around with the combat. It's nice! It has a nice feel to it. It's certainly better than vanilla combat, in the sense that you actually need to have a tactic. You just don't know if your enemy's going to charge head on, or if he's going to block most of the time. Only downside is Armed to the Teeth doesn't really work. :( But, every other mod I got so far works great. So, I just gotta get a way to record, and then I guess I can start with the video series.

Fraps is the best choice by far. Just be sure to have a lot of free hdd space while recording if you plan on doing long videos (30min or so). When I was doing my Minecraft series (we stopped), our 10minute videos were around 8gig and the 15min ones could hit as high as 14gig. They really add up in space; especially when you stop, record, die, stop, re-record, die again, ect. Luckily putting the video through Windows movie maker compresses them down to a good 500mb-1gig file.

Maybe try checking Bandicam out as well. Personally I find Fraps causes too much lag when recording Skyrim gameplay videos, regardless of which settings I use. Bandicam helps reduce lag in my experience, and also the output files are smaller.

KK TY for the suggestions. As for the mods... WOW! I'm playing with these mods on Master, and not only do the mods I have, when bundled together, make it a real challenge to beat the game, but, it's also a FUN challenge. I didn't realize how lame the combat AI was until I grabbed PISE and Deadly Combat. I didn't realize how unrealistically bright nighttime was in Skyrim until I got 'Realistic Lighting...' I haven't tried the camping yet, but, I REALLY like the game so far. The mods I got really add more experience and depth to the game and the game world. I experience slight screen stutters (lag) at times, but I did something with my SkyrimPrefs which made it better than it was even when I had LESS mods. It isn't really that bad, anymore. It still happens some, and the textures of the ground and shadows are noticeably lower, but I'd rather have fun playing a game that looked decent, than play a game that looked incredible, but was unplayable due to lag. :)

Try these mods grouped together. Trust me, it'll change your experience of Skyrim (For the MUCH Better!)

EDIT: I do have one small problem, though. I CTD when I go to the main menu FROM IN-GAME. If I select 'Quit...Main Menu' I CTD. I thought it was due to not having saves at first, so I tried it with a save, and that didn't make a difference. If anyone can help with that, TY. And, if not, no biggie. It only happens if I try to go there from in-game, which I really don't see the point in doing. LOL.

Take a look at Game Booster 3. It is free and gives you the ability to record. I also have the paid version of FRAPS and I really like it as well.

Game Booster has the added advantage of setting your PC up as a game machine by shutting down processes running that you don't need when playing a game. I feel it is very user friendly as well.

I wish you success with your project.
