Stemro
Hi Everybody, I am new to Skyrim and I have a question: with older mods, that no longer get updated and that don't state on their info page that they are compatible with the latest version (currently 1.5), will these kind of mods work with the latest version of Skyrim? Do game patch updates 'break' mods? Here's an example for what I mean by "older mods":Enhanced Perk Points by xenofixus: It is a mod that was last updated on December 22 2011. It says on the info page in big letters: "COMPATIBLE WITH ALL SKYRIM VERSIONS!!!". But then in smaller letters it says "as of December 22, 2011". Does this mean it will work with Skyrim patched to 1.5, or not (because 1.5 came out way after December 22, 2011). I hope they do work because there are some older mods that I really want (such as the one above). If they don't work, is there any simple way to make them work (I mean a way for someone who doesn't know modding and coding)? Thanks in advance to everyone who will answer! Markmid
I can only give you a general answer/reflection until someone has more specific knowledge/keys. Often yes, sometimes no. Most of the time in TES games patches do not break mods, most of the time. Some have seen the opposite to be true once or twice. Usually however it works the other way around, that is as long as you have the latest version, expansion etc, you can run this mod. Hopefully someone will have more specific information on this particular patch, as I haven't looked at modding this game till now, now I know what I want to put in. bben46
Older mods - those made before the release of the CK (Construction Kit) on Feb 7, 2012 are simpler in structure and usually are only texture replacers (probably over 95%) these should not be affected by newer patches at all. However, there is no guarantee that any mod will work with a newer version of Skyrim. All I can really say is try it and see. If you are really worried that it may break your game, make a copy of the data folder with a different name before installing that mod. Then if it doesn't work, you have a back up.
tatt0o
The only "older" mods which will not work with skyrim after patches that I know of are the ones that use skyrim script extender. This only occurs because skyrim script extender needs to be updated everytime skyrim has a new patch. In which case it is not the mod that causes the problem, merely the script extender. Other than that, most if not all old mods do not conflict with patches of skyrim
