problem with profile management

Hi,

Summary:
I'm trying to switch profiles but it doesn't work

I'm using option to have individual saves and settings;

(windows 10 pro latest version 1803 build 17134.48 fresh install of 2018-05-17 also I'm using Bethini)

Expected Results:
- Highlight the chosen profile;
- On the first run plugins should be grayed out and I should have to enable the ones I want to use and deploy them;
- List the saves under the selected profile;

Actual Results:
- when I click the new profile it opens the working directory of the latest app I added and asks for an image which I cancel as I don't want to change the image but just select the profile;
- it doesn't create a new save directory under the "My Games/Skyrim Special Edition/Saves/";
- I can go into Vortex'x Save Games and manually select the name and it sorts the the saves but they are all in the same location;
- In the Vortex tree I do find under SkyrimSE the 2 profiles I have with the same 4 files (loadorder/plugins/skyrim/skyrimpref - last 2 are vortex's versions not my behtini one)

I tried
- adding a new one
- dragging the box to copy the settings
- cloning
- re-installing vortex

I noticed:
- transferring the saves moves all of them to the same location as no new save directory was created
- Vortexs' skyrim.ini indicate SLocalSavePath=Saves\
- Starting the game I can list all saves or select either character and proper saves are listed

But as such I can't have a vanilla profile to test new mods nor profiles for specific playthrough as mage or thief build with their one set of enabled plugins

Please advise on proper procedures or let me know if I expect wrong,
Regards

Vortex 0.15.2

What has always worked for me:

1) Add a new game. Have a default set of mods selected. This is my "Master".

2) Select the Clone option. Edit the title to reflect my theme, like "Mage". Mods selected are the same as your source.

3) Make sure "own save games" and "own game settings" show green (selected).

4) Go down to Save Games. Click "Transfer Savegame".

5) In the "Import from" dropdown, select Global or your default profile. This may take a bit. All the save games you have should be listed.

6) Highlight one of interest - not all.

7) Click Import on that one save game.

8 ) It will ask you Move or Copy. I always select Copy, since I want to leave the default save games alone.

9) Your new save game is added.

10) Modify your mod list for this profile and Deploy. Should be good to go - but do make sure all plugins are enabled.

Hi,

Actual Results:

- when I click the new profile it opens the working directory of the latest app I added and asks for an image which I cancel as I don't want to change the image but just select the profile;

Wait, are you saying it didn't occur to you to press the "Enable" button to enable a profile? You instead clicked the profile image, which lets you change the profile image

but doesn't enable the profile?

I can picture people not figuring out that the profile image can be changed by clicking on it, but that's no critical feature so that's ok.

But a big orange button saying "Enable" should be obvious, no?

- it doesn't create a new save directory under the "My Games/Skyrim Special Edition/Saves/";

- I can go into Vortex'x Save Games and manually select the name and it sorts the the saves but they are all in the same location;

You didn't say that you actually enabled the per-profile savegame feature, nor whether you actually managed to enable the profile.

Hello,

Yes the "enable" is on;

Yes the profile management is set to yes (when not the add a new profile option isn't offered);

Yes I clicked the 2 options for saves and settings and did input a name for the profile before clicking "save";

If i mouse over the added profile it doesn't highlight hence me clicking it, at the second click the file manager pops up offering the input bar for an image type file (.png ...) that location will be the working directory of the last app I used ie sseedit / bethini or resaver... The profile border always stays gray.

As indicated, in the vortex file tree in the program data directory it does create a place holder per profile but content is the same, inis are the same and don't mirror my original ones. No changes occur in the save game directory under the documents\mygame\...

To see if i had a generic problem on my system i deactivated vortex and installed mo2 where sadly profiles do work so it narrows the problem to vortex on my machine. I don't know how to attache a file to this post otherwise i would send you the vortex.log, i noticed in the log that very often

  • 2 years later...

I just found a way to fix the crating save folders issue. In the profile manager click the down arrow next to the orange button of your profile and select "Open Save Games". it forces vortex to create the save folder and when I ran skyrim and fallout4 again it created saves in the correct folder. Hope that helps.
