Paarthurnax, The Greybeards and The Blades

There was a topic called "Did you kill Paarthurnax" not so long ago. And someone wrote there that when he received the "kill Paarthurnax" request from Delphine, he Fus-Ro-Da'd her from the mountain slope (where the conversation took place) together with Esbern. Well, I usually proceed to the main line after completing some others (including the Civil War), but I do the same every time. Believe me, that sweet couple flies from that Blades' keep balcony as nice as it does from High Hrothgar!

i like having 2 friendly dragons in the game. i can understand the blades argument but when delephine says it i just want to punch her in the face. when esbern says it i see a "its the right thing, but hard to do " look. with delphine all i see in her eyes is hate and prejudice.

The Blades are suppose to serve those born of the Dragon Blood....but in reality they serve the Akaviri in my book. Paarthurnax helps you, without anything in return, while all the Blades want is help from you. As the Countess of Bruma stated, "We know who they serve....."

i do not have any beef with Paarthurnax, i just think that he and the Greybeards are useless after a certain point. the Blades help you by hunting evil dragons with you, Greybeards, they give you a few free words and give you locations to other words, which you have to go out by yourself and get, then you have to kill a dragon just to get a soul to unlock it. I do not see that as them training you, more like you training yourself. at least i am on PC so i can mod in a better solution to the Mr P debacle. oh, and Paarthurnax, he sits on a mountain ad watches while you fight, only helping when you need to Meditate on three words, two of which are useless if you do not use the words the meditation are for. I have done the Dragon hunts with the Blades before....I can't recall those Dragons as having been a known problem, as the bounty Dragons are stated as being...my feeling was Esburn would track down the location of any random Dragon and send the Dragon Born and Blades after it....more akin to the Greybeards comments about Genocide rather than hunting problem Dragons....Is why I haven't done the Dragon hunts with them since...I didn't like the feel of it, it did feel more genocidaly motivated to me.

Delphine says something to the effect of not being able to be true to their blade oaths if her & Esbern continue to hang out with the Dovahkin (unless he/she kills Paarthurnax). Is there any mention of what exactly that oath is? I can't recall and I couldn't find it on the webs. In any event, doesn't she kinda show that she doesn't put much stock in oaths anyways by skipping that part for all but the 1st recruit? Something like "let's skip the oath and get them suited up right away..." I.E. following her agenda is more compelling than a silly ol' oath. (Come to think of it, I guess that's the oath she's talking about. Lol, I can't even remember how it goes.)

Besides, one of her big concerns is that Paarthy (my pal) will turn rogue. Well, she's got the freakin' DRAGONBORN on her side to take care of things if and when that happens fergawdsakes (not to mention the new recruits, who her & Esbern weren't able to get on their own).

@landy8: nice "flyin' couple" quip!

"The Remanada traces the history of the Blades to the original Akaviri Dragonguard of Reman Cyrodiil, who arrived in Tamriel to exterminate the dragons. According to this legendary account, the same immortal Akaviri pledged themselves to Cuhlecain in order to aid General Talos' ascent to the throne."

So they are not that complex. Serve the king, kill the dragons. Since you are not the king (yet) the killing of the dragons remains their only option.

From memory they are pledged to serve those born of dragon blood....they only served the emperors who were of dragon blood. Because Delphine and Esbern put their oath of killing every dragon before their pledge to serve the dragon born, that tells me they only serve the Akiviri, which is not of Tamriel. It is my opinion that Paarthurnax chose to help men against his own kind, and so deserves some respect. The Blades in Skyrim have not earnt my respect as they are only interested in their own agenda. Well that is my take on it anyway
