imperistan
Consequences? Lol. Absolutely, consequences: Kill Parth: Lose him as a teacher and gain the support of the Blades.Don't Kill Parth: Keep him as a teacher and lose the support of the Blades.I think that's pretty straightforward, yes? Now, some people might not think that the benefits of having Parth alive outweigh the benefits of having the support of the Blades. I don't use followers in this game, so the pragmatic decision for me, as Player (not necessarily for me as Character) is to tell the Blades to get off the train (preferably while it's still moving). There are no major benefits to having the support of either one. You receive the location of Word Walls from so many different sources throughout the game (also doesn't help that the vast majority of them are always at the same kind of map markers, so its not like you couldn't run around the whole of Skyrim and pick up the vast majority of the words) and the perks you gain from Paarthurnax can all be learned before you kill him for the Blades. robanybody2000
Paarthurnax teaches you tons of stuff, including how to summon a dragon, bring dozens of dragons on your side, and afterwards kill him because you label him usless for exhaustin his teachings? Weren't you the stormcloack honor type?

Weren't you the stormcloack honor type? He gives you 3 perks, all of which have about zero impact. Esbern also teaches you Call Dragon. Paarthurnax does nothing, because in-game those dragon's "he calls to his side" do nothing. And besides that, Nax is a time bomb. All it takes is one loss of control one day (because he still fights against his true nature every day. He says this himself, and if he hasn't been able to completely overcome that nature in the thousands of years he's had to do so, he won't be doing so any time soon either) and he could corrupt every dragon he's trying to convert, and we have another Dragon war on our hands. He is better off dead, and honestly his goal is fruitless. Trying to take a force of nature and force it to conform to some mortal whims is foolish. That Paarthurnax hasn't snapped already is nothing short of a miracle, and its not even a certainty that he did it of his own accord. Kyne was majorly involved in bestowing man with their own voice. Whose to say that she didn't use some of her godly power to take Nax away from the realm of normal dragons? But besides all that, in-game neither choice has any real, substantial benefits. You may as well be choosing two empty boxes as far as the actual pro's and con's go.
BrettM
There was a gap of around 1,000 years between the end of the Dragon War and when Jurgen Windcaller invented the Way of the Voice, yet somehow Paarth managed not to go back to his old ways during all that time. I think he has a pretty good track record for self control. If he did go out of control, though, would he be any more of a problem than any other dragon? Only if he could gather enough of a following to start a new tyranny. But how many other dragons would be willing to follow him, knowing that he was the one who taught men how to fight them and win? I don't expect Paarth would win any popularity contests among them. I don't think Paarth is going to have much luck making converts to the Way. However, I wonder if it would be possible for the dragonborn to broker an agreement allowing the peaceful coexistence of dov and mortals in Skyrim. This wouldn't be without precedent and would not require the dragons to follow the Way. There were plenty of dragons around for centuries before the genocidal Akaviri showed up, yet there wasn't a general conflict between Nords and dragons during that time. There were undoubtedly incidents (Olaf and Numinex), but the dragons weren't seen as threatening enough to be worth a general war, much less an extermination. The race has a second chance now that Alduin has brought so many back to life. Can they be convinced not to blow it? Now THAT'S a quest line I'd like to see in a future DLC. The heck with "Season Unending", I want to organize and conduct a peace conference between dragons and jarls. That would be a real sight.

JimS61
Delphine says something to the effect of not being able to be true to their blade oaths if her & Esbern continue to hang out with the Dovahkin (unless he/she kills Paarthurnax). Is there any mention of what exactly that oath is? I can't recall and I couldn't find it on the webs. In any event, doesn't she kinda show that she doesn't put much stock in oaths anyways by skipping that part for all but the 1st recruit? Something like "let's skip the oath and get them suited up right away..." I.E. following her agenda is more compelling than a silly ol' oath. (Come to think of it, I guess that's the oath she's talking about. Lol, I can't even remember how it goes.) Besides, one of her big concerns is that Paarthy (my pal) will turn rogue. Well, she's got the freakin' DRAGONBORN on her side to take care of things if and when that happens fergawdsakes (not to mention the new recruits, who her & Esbern weren't able to get on their own). @landy8: nice "flyin' couple" quip! As far as I recall the Blades Oath is to FOLLOW, SERVE AND PROTECT the Dragonborns but they're the ones who need protection from the Aldumarrie Domenion. They only came out of hiding after 30 years because they found the Dovahkiin so they feel safe now. How safe will they be if the Dovahkiin quits the Blades, leaving them on their own? As for TO FOLLOW AND SERVE goes, the only FOLLOWING and SERVING they seem to want or do is to get the Dovahkiin to follow and serve them.FOLLOW by blindly following and obeying them and SERVE by killing or commiting genocide on command!? NO WAY! My Dovahkiin walked away. Now how safe and protected are they?

You may as well be choosing two empty boxes as far as the actual pro's and con's go. Wrong. Those 3 perks do help but you must repeat them for them to have any real effect. When you mediate on the 3 words, your Thumm becomes stronger, more powerful. This is stated in the "Official Guide To Skyrim Book" (a very thick book) and the book says to mediate with him as often as you want so I tried it and it DOES work. I visit(ed) Paarth quite often just to do that and each time I mediated on each word and then did it again 2 more times (for a total of 3 times each) and every time I shouted after each visit, my shout was more powerful (but remeber, I mediated each word 3 times to really make it noticable).

Zinnorokkrah
Peace between the dov and the joore has happened before. Tiber Septim/Talos/Hjalti Early-Beard made a deal with the dragons that if they were to fight by his side, none of them would be killed anymore. As such, there is only one dragon recorded who actually served directly and actively with Tiber Septim other than Paarthurnax who undoubtedly taught him the use of the Thu'um. I can't remember the rest right now, but I invite others to fill in the gaps with this.
