SubjectProphet
Good morning XD Yeah, it's 7:13 AM here right now. I get all my sleep after 3:00 AM, then I go ahead and sleep and wake up now. Makes sense, doesn't it? No wonder I'm always tired on the job.... Anyway, I woke up and forgot to turn my antivirus on and my IP mask on, and that was the biggest mistake I've made so far this year. I was browsing through google for Skyrim mods and stuff like that, but I downloaded a mod that happened to have some kind of Spyware or Adware on it. Either that or one of the websites I was on gave it too me. It was called "Windows Debug." I know a hell of a lot about computers and hardware, but nothing about viruses. So I was hoping someone could help me get this crap off my registery. I restored my system to an earlier point, and it got rid of the virus for now, but I hear that things like this stay and only pop back up when the computer passes a certian amount of time. So, someone tell me, is this true, and if so, how do I delete the files forever?
RitualBlack
To get rid of it you could give spybot a try http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html You can use this to clean everything up and any files that are unable to be removed you can go into the folder where it is located and delete them yourself. Also you should clear out any temporary files and use your normal virus protection program to scan it. You should probably boot into safe mode to do all this. Not many things are difficult to remove and if you did a system restore it isn't likely to still be on your computer, but if you are worried just boot into safe mode and run spybot. If nothing is found you should be fine, and if something is found that it cannot remove (like certain 'toolbar' viruses) just go into its containment folder and delete it yourself. aruless
You can also download the free version of malwarebytes, dr. web, ccleaner, start in safe mode like beyond says, execute dr web(if dr web find anything delete the virus), then malwarebytes a quick scan should work, restart the pc and run again malwarebytes and finaly ccleaner, it should be enough for most of cases. PS You should check this programs combofix and hijackthis, my final solution for some virus.
SubjectProphet
Through some research, I found out the files in my reg that were apart of the spyware. I deleted the three remaining, and am running a virus scan now to delete whatever file was infected, though the system restore should've removed it. Better safe than sorry though.
