Okay where to begin....

First of all, I reformatted my computer but I still had Fallout 4 with my mods on a separate hard drive while reformatting. For good measure I even uninstalled Fallout 4 and reinstalled it again.

A problem I'm having is that when I start up the game, at the main menu when I continue my last save, it loads for a while....... Then crashes.

So I try a new game. While on the main menu still, it loads. Forever. Doesn't even cut to the black screen while loading.

Disabled all my mods, same results.

Completely removed all my mod files, oh it's working now! Start a new game, cuts to black, loads, game starts.

Reinstall mods............. Back to square one.

I've gone through so much trial and error, all I can do now is turn to you guys.. Before I reformatting my computer, everything was working all hunky-dory, the only difference is that I went from Windows 7 to Window 10.

I am sorry to say that it is time you really have to go all out. Either no mod, or you have to be a know-it-all mod user. The "let me just download this mod and hope it works" phase is not sustainable.

First, get a mod manager, I recommend Mod Organizer 2. Second, try to learn how to properly install mods, know where they go and how they work, inside out. What is script extender? Why Load Order matter? What are best practices? What are NOT to do? When to backup and what to backup? Don't just look on Nexus, see something cool, buy into the advertising, and throw it in your mod pile. You need to develop a common sense within the mods. Something like "hmmm, wait a minute, these 2 mods may not go together, let's look up the comments, the compatibility list"

This is how I perceived your problems:

- Based on your way of saying things, you haven't gotten deep into understanding mods (not an insult, just an observation).

- You obviously have no idea how mods work. Mods don't touch base game so reinstalling a couple times will not help.

- How do you disable mods vs uninstall them?

- How did you reinstall mods? What are the mods? Did you observe a proper installation procedure + awareness?

Reformating the computer will fix your many computer related issues (if you have any). There is a slight chance your actual game is corrupted, but thats very rare. You can reinstall the whole thing and/or have integrity check. But 99% it is how you installed the mods that caused your current problem, quite obviously.

Moving things forward, please show your mod list (in spoiler tag) and tell us what mod manager you are using.

I don't considered myself an all knowing whizz of any sorts, but I at least have a good bearing on things I understand Load Orders while using LOOT to help me as well as reading through installation processes on mods to help me determine load orders, and I actually do use the Nexus Mod Manager, can't live without it and I'm not using SKSE or any SKSE required mods at this time.

When I disable mods, I just mean going to the Plugins tab on the mod manager and click on 'Disable all the active Plugins' button

When I remove the mods entirely... I admit, I'm a bit lazy... I just moved the Textures, Meshes, Scripts, Sounds, and Materials folders.

The thing is, all of this was working, it all worked and was functional, everything was peachy-keen. However, everything broke once I went from Win7 to Win10

Could also be a problem with the Windows registry - not mod-related at all.

To solve the issue (or rule out regsitration problems), check your Fallout 4 settings in Steam:

- Check, if Steam treats the game as "installed". If not, "install" it again.

- If the game is marked as "installed", go to "properties" --> "verify game cache". This will tell Steam to scan your game for missing/broken files and fix it.

Be warned: Steam will install the latest version of Fallout 4. If using F4SE, you might have to update it and at least some of the mods depending on it.

I mentioned I reinstalled the game, I didn't mentioned that I already did verify game cache however.

I didn't mean to sound patronizing or belittling. But it was unsure on my side how your skill level is. Anyhow, let's get to what you first said:

So you disable mods via NMM plugins. And you remove mods by completely uninstall them. And the game works when you uninstall all mods ... Well, then obviously there is something in between that borks your game. It could be even a bad mesh (although very unlikely to get you to forever load).

What I would do is to slowly install the essential mods (like Unofficial patch, armor keyword, etc...) and load the game each time you go with a chunk of mods. The save may load, may crash due to missing mods, it's fine. At least not forever loading screen. Eventually you will come across a time where you will encounter forever loading screen. Then you must examine the last few mods you just installed.

I use MO2, it allows mod activation much easier than NMM. Just something to think about.
