grimmhelm
So, can anyone tell me if there is a whip or flail animation already in the game that i could use as a test bed? I really want to create Leather Whips/ Chain Whips/ etc. into the game but don't have any experience modding at all.anyone already working on this? or could point in the right direction to create this sort of weapon for Skyrim. VorlaHusian
This would be a cool utility mod for those that don't like telekinesis, or magic in general. Whip an object (with the right perk activated of course) and it flies straight at you. At the right moment grab it and put it in your inventory. This would be limited to small objects, but you could be Indiana Jones for a day.
GoodfellowGoodspring
A flail/Witchking Mace was shown in the post-development video bash thingy, such a weapon would be pointless however unless it made use of collision and used havok to bash people out of the way when swinging etc :D
Flowerguy360
I hereby declare myself a great wizard, for I have achieved... ...THREAD NECROMANCY! Seriously, though - any progress on this? Whips would be fun for not just damage, but could also be used to pull enemies toward you & immobilizing them for a moment, or for a good animation while jumping to swing toward something if you can attack an object above you and wrap the whip around it (though I realize that last would likely be quite challenging to add). So... not completely useless, no. It sounds like a lot of fun, actually. :) Do a search on the forums, btw - over 70 requests for whips, and those are just the people who spoke up asking for it. So there's definitely an interest; it's just proven to be intermittent in the requesting. And whips were a genuine medieval weapon - not just Indiana Jones' toy. :P
Natterforme
The game can not support whips. -Natterforme
Deleted1308005User
@Natterforme Aye, I'm not sure if you got some extra official info 'bout that, but it was shown on the Game Jam video. (Among with some other physics related things)Maybe possible, but we must wait for this official "release" before we can get our hands on these things. ElvenHeroine
No it is entirely possible. Jena Angela is already working on it. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14823 All you have to do is alter the combat animation based on what is already done for axes and just change the distance to be that of a two-handed weapons. Then create graphics of a whip and make it so there is a whip sound when it hits. This is similar to the chain dwemer sword that is in the nexus mods already. Then all you have to do is just make your new addition be separate from Axes as its own weapon category and that is how you can have whips and flails in this game. You can also have ball and chain as a two-handed weapon with a sweep feature to it, which you can also find relevant mods to copy from using the Nexus. Again, people make it sound more difficult than it actually is. {ADDED} Also it is easy now to edit animation for a weapon, just look at what JeffreyXiong1 did with spears. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22927 So don't listen to Natterforme, he doesn't know what he is talking about. These "spears" you pointed out use staff animations..Not brand new animations. I am not 100% sure, but I do believe those use "fake" effect instead of real melee. (Though, didn't check them in CK or in-game to be sure)So, instead of melee, those shoot "projectile" that can only hit in really short distance, thus making it a bit like meleeing. As for the Realmshatter mod you pointed out:"In concept stageFlail / ball and chainSpear / Polearm" That pack hasn't been touched in almost year. And author hasn't been around since may. I HIGHLY doubt we are going to see any whips and flails from that author.

I HIGHLY doubt we are going to see any whips and flails from that author. Actually they use one tibit of the staff animation, which means it is possible to swap animations from one time to another. All you need for a whip to work is a swing animation within the fiber it self. A blowing a flag can easily due to the trick. Transfer the animation of a flag to a spear or sword, then alter the look of the spear or sword to match how you depict a whip would be. It is that easy. Again, you are making it sound more difficult than it actually is. {Added} By the way, you would need to include the whips smack sound for a whip and maybe rely on an altered mace animation rather than an altered sword animation for the flail.
