Hardware recommendation

Not 100% related to FO4 technical support, but I am looking at building a new computer for gaming (for someone in the house). His computer is 5 years old. I am thinking of getting an ITX motherboard because it is all he is going to need: a video card + CPU + RAM + HDD. AMD Ryzen CPU has all the hypes. So I need recommendations to whether I should consider Ryzen 2nd gen CPU instead of going with an Intel CPU? I haven't touched AMD for many many years (10+) and I don't presume the new Ryzen is anything like old AMD 10 years ago.

Any drawback of Ryzen CPU in comparison to Intel? I heard the newest chipset is X470 for motherboard. Any big feature should I be concerned of beside the usual, USB 3.1, SATA3, etc...

Onboard video card is heard to be better than Intel graphic, but nothing close to a dedicated card. He is reusing his GTX 970, so that is plenty. Should I just ignore the onboard card, or there is some nifty thing I can do to make it better?

The aim, of course, is to play current games, including modded FO4 with ENB.

Hi

For this game vanilla, an x version of a Ryzen 5 will do. I only recommend x versions because this game dose not like overclocks on some hardware configurations.

A GTX 970 is fine as well on a vanilla game. For ENB it is very weak. Mine failed with ENB on Skyrim LE. I replaced it with a GTX 980 after about two months.

Fallout 4, modded is the #1 killer of hardware of any game I have played.

When the game came out I played it on a i7 2600k that has about the same IPC(instructions per cycle)as R 1600. The game slowly became unplayable as I added content. On my i7 6700k computer my game still ran fine. The i7 6700k as about the same IPC as the R 7 2700x. I now use a i7 8700k because my game is no longer smooth on a i7 6700k.

The extra cores on the Ryzen won't help since the game won't utilize them.

It did not take long for my game to become unplayable on a hard drive. I can only recommend the game on a SSD if you want to mod it.

My recommended setup for 1080 resolution is:

Ryzen 5 2600x

GTX 1060 6gb (for ENB)

1tb sata SSD.

Even though I am an Intel user I can not recommend anything below a i7 8700k.

Go Ryzen.
