CTD Cause?

Beccy

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, i've read through a few of the posts here in Tech Help about CTDs, and they've sort of been helpful, but don't really aim at the issue i have. I've done clean installs, and i've re-downloaded my modlist (These are the ones i just CANNOT live without, my bare bones if you will.) However i'm still getting CTD's.

From experience i've got these CTD's in all situations, so its not like i can say its always when enter building X which is part of Mod X, i could even be in the vanilla gameworld with no changes when i crash, I've run BOSS, (I'll post the report at the bottom) which isn't showing any real errors that i can see, so i was wondering if anyone has any hints, advice or tips on how i can narrow down the cause of my CTD's,

Me, and my Quicksave button would really appreciate the help, thanks in advance

There is no 'one size fits all' fix for crashes. There are as many different reasons for crashes as there are people playing the games. Many crashes ARE related to mods, but not all. Some can be hardware related, others can be caused by background programs trying to hog the processor.

The more information you can give, the more we will be able to help. Try to keep a record of what you were doing when the crash happened.

One popular reason for random crashes is a background program deciding it needs to take over for a few milliseconds. If it doesn't give back the control to the game soon enough you get a crash. VOIP, IM, Auto Defrag, even virus scanners can be guilty. I learned this the hard way while playing Oblivion - I had a HP update program that insisted it had to run every 10 minutes. When I killed that process, my crashes went from at least every half hour to one at about 6 hours - when I ran out of memory.

Thanks for your reply Bben, and Georgiegirl, I'll give the WATER last thing a try, see what i get thanks for the tip!.

As for background programs, i'm not sure that i have any, and my PC (In terms of volume) doesnt seem to be under any strain at all when the crashes occur, and sometimes, its like the game just keeps eating memory after the CTD, theres nothing on screen, but it still shows in my Process' tab in Task Manager, sometimes in excess of 1,000,000Kbs of memory while still climbing. Do you happen to know if theres any way i can test your theory? anything i can look out for?, Obviously i can close almost all background apps and try that but any other tips i mean.

And thanks again both for your help! it really is much appreciated.

Using the official HD texture pack's esp.'s have also caused a few problems, idk about CTD's from those though, here's a link.

HD Textures DLC Fix

I've got the HD pack downloaded, but they're not active, i can't seem to run them.

Also, i've tried playing with my Task Manager open, and as best as i can tell, from any of my CTD's today no other programs have tried to steal my CPU usage, the only other program that shows any level of use is steam :S. And it seems moving WATER to last in the load hasn't worked for me either.
