Question about language tags

Just started to play around with the tag/tag blocking system, and I decided to flip the tags to block all non-English mods. (I speak two languages, English and Bad English, so a mod in Russian does me no good.) On my first search, I discovered that several mods that I use and watch for updates did not appear. Digging further, I looked at one of my favorites, "A requiem for the capitol wasteland." On opening the tags section, I discovered that it had been tagged twice for French, nine times for German, 5 times for Japanese, 3 times for Polish, and 4 times for Russian!

As I have the mod installed, and have thoroughly dissected it, I can attest that the mod appears to be written in English.

This brings up my question, what is the purpose of the language tags? I had assumed they were there to indicate the language the mod was written in, but the evidence seems to point otherwise. Is it an indication of which versions of the game the file will work with, a vote to have the file done in that language or something else?

I would like to learn more about this as well. I'm tired of seeing mods that aren't english pop up when I search. It makes for that many more hits to go through. It would be really nice if there was a way to have a preference to turn on or off different language mods. I have nothing against people translating mods for their given native language, I just don't want to wade through them myself. Particularly given that I was under the impression this was an english site. Edited by Stemin

That's a mess, either people are stupid or they're setting out to break the system. A requiem for the capitol wasteland also has in addition to those tags you mentioned.....

5 Humor, Joke or Just for Fun

11 Video

10 Saved games

6 Modder's Resource

I've also had to remove a couple of tags for my lowly mods, one that adds idle animations to NPCs was tagged as video.

I also, originally, suspected foul play, but I have always tried to follow the maxim: "Never ascribe to maliciousness that which can be explained with simple incompetence."

Whatever the reason the tagging system is only as good as the people doing the tagging.

But in theory there's an option that I can use that will let me filter out non english mods?

Only if they're tagged correctly, if enough people tag a German mod as English then it won't get filtered.

Wait a minute... so they created a system where it's tagged by outside users? Why wouldn't the mod itself get tagged by the uploader or the site admin? That's messed up.

Yes, that is correct anyone can tag a file.

The uploader has the opportunity to tag a file when he creates a file page, his tags are automatically confirmed and set.

Others are added when the criteria is met by the community tagging, bear in mind that tagging is not truly definitive, as understanding the the tag term is not always understood.

As for the admin doing it, we do when we have time...we are unpaid volunteers, so we do what we feel we have time and inclination of doing and not what you want done.

However if you want to pay my consultant rates I will be happy to commence tagging all the files on this family of sites, my consultant fee starts at 150.00 USD an hour, let me know when you want me to start, and I can tag about 40 files an hour, and there are roughly 60,000 on this family of sites. I will be happy to forward my 1099 information if needed and my paypal account number. I will turn in my retirment papers when you are ready for me to start as this will be a full time job.

Eagerly awaiting to hear from you.

What's with all the attitude? I never said anything about you doing "what I want done". I'm just saying I don't understand why anyone at all can tag a file. It's not a very accurate system that way.

IMO, it should be the person uploading the mod, or a moderator/administrator.

And if you're so overworked maybe you shouldn't have volunteered, eh?
