giskarduk
I agree 100% Giskard and I suggested as much to her on my site. I said:it seems to me that if you were up for it you could really stick it to 'em by making your own overhaul that makes all the others obsolete. i wish you would be willing to do that because OBSE has made it so all the other mod incompatibilities can just be completely eliminated. i hate OOO. i like MMM but it too has serious issues. i want to see D-DOO - Dewshine's Definitive Oblivion Overhaul. Could you imagine a single mod that accomplishes all that OOO and Fran's does but is designed for ultimate compatibility with everything. Her response was:The problem is with making a new overhaul is - Wait for it - I love Frans as it is. I don't want to play another overhaul, even if it is one of my own. I want to play Frans, and I want to keep playing Frans. But I'd also like to fix it as much as possible to make it more compatible with the innovations coming out. So I guess we will have to wait for you to do it Giskard ol buddy, I for one would love to see that. Well I wont argue that if she loves francs why change it, i know why, theres a few minor issues she could fix. I love francs too and understand her position. As for me doing it, I may do it for my blackmarsh mod, demostrate what i mean in a world i have 100% control over. When I get time I'll drop by the wormhole for a drink, been generating a new world recently and its taking up a lot of time. But its looking great :) Giskard
dezdimona
I believe it should. Although I'm not a user of it personally, something like that should not be allowed to just fall by the wayside and be forgotten!
Lord of the Strings
I'm not using this mod, (but OI) and have voted for yes, but mean in general: this is only correct if the original modder has *not* excluded any changes to his mod. (e.g in his Readme. So if it is said: "I don't want this mod to be changed by others in any way" one has to respect this. If it is orphaned, it shall be o.k. to continue his or her work. MrCooper2006
I think they should continue it. If its owner has abandoned it then theres no harm taking ownership of it. Whatever they decide to do with it, the original will always be available to use. So if you dont like the way the mod is going go to, just dont download it. Maybe just release an optional update for it. Im a user of FCOM so use Frans indirectly, and I see no reason why any mod should not be kept updated and expanded upon. After all its why we keep coming here isnt it?
Shadowcran
all things must progress forward. As long as the changes aren't borderline nutcase ideas(like those in my silly suggestions thread in feedback), then it's perfectly ok for someone else to take over the mod. If there was money or copyrights involved, I'd say nay, but there isn't. If Dewshine is willing to devote his/her spare time to modding and fixing Fran's up, then they have my support and gratitude. Fran's is such a great mod and it deserves to be updated. So long as it's not being butchered, I say go for it. I trust/hope good decisions will be made. shandrill
Of coarse she should. No doubt unless it is stated in the read me that no one was to touch change the mod, but even under those circumstances I could make a case to go forward. I would think 6 months of trying to contact the original owner/ team by emails or forum posts ect would be more than suffeient and she has tried for a year. By all intents and purposes she has done all she can to obtain the OK from the Maker. She is improving the mod for the community which is no doubt what the original maker wanted to do. I also tried the MMMonster mod it was my first choice in mods but had too many problems so I would be very interested in improvements to this mod in particular. She would have my thanks. I wish more people who have the skills could update/ improve some of the better mods and ideas left by the wayside by other modders. There should be some general understanding about how long a Mod can be dormant before someone can add to it of coarse making sure always to give credit where credit it due. I would not think there would be backlash from the community for her update if all knew that many efforts had gone into contacting the Owner. If she is still a bit iffy iffy about going forward then she could get in touch with another Large Mod maker and see how they would feel if they were for what ever reason not be able to or didn't want to make more updates how they would feel if it was them that was uncontactable, would they be annoyed or happy someone else did. The last part would be difficult. Sotoborastos (OOO), Newcomer24 (Frans), and Martigen(MMM) have all moved on. Only L@zarus (OWC) still pops in from time to time.
