TBDM5678
I am trying to play Fallout New Vegas on my laptop, however after installing and starting a new game, it crashes during the opening cutscene (I see the moon of the opening scene for about half a second if it matters any)I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y460P with 64-bit Windows 7, an i5-2410m processor with 6 GB RAM and a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6550M video card I posted my dilemma on steam and no one seemed to be able to help. I have tried, among other things, disabling steam overlay and disabling the opening cutscene, In the latter the game just shows a loading screen for a little while before crashing,
luthienanarion
It's highly unusual for the game to crash when starting a new game. I'm assuming this is without mods? Try verifying the game cache in Steam to make sure that all of the necessary files are present and complete. Sometimes Steam leaves things unfinished. TBDM5678
Yes this is without mods. When on the steam forums I was told to do that, I tried several times to verify the cache and every time it said one file could not be verified and would be reaquired, only to have nothing happen. I was told by another person on the Steam forums that this was supposed to happen however.

TBDM5678
Alright, I moved the two .EXE files to my desktop, and verified the cache. It then gave me that three files could not be verified, and then it started downloading the exe files again. After that I tried to verify it again and it gave me one file missing. When I attempted to play the game steam gave me that it was unavailable at the time. I decided I might try using mod manager programs to see what would happen, I got the same crash error I was getting through steam earlier. Currently steam is saying that Fallout New Vegas is unavailable when I try to play it through Steam and not New Vegas' launch menu or a mod manager.
