BenpMark1
Hi everyone, I need your help ! (please) I always wondered why Bethesda didn't add the possibility to build and place your own ammo boxes or first aid kits in your settlements since you find them everywhere in the Commonwealth... So, I decided to try and make them myself with the assets from the Creation Kit. (since I didn't find a mod that regroups the 2, I was aiming to make a mod pack). I picked and edited all ammunation boxes (standard and Institute) and the first aid kits (ground and wall mounted) and made workshop recipes for each off them. I matched the ammo boxes with an edit of the toolbox recipe and for the medkits, I edited the recipe of the cooler for the standard med kits (ground) and for the wall mounted ones, i chose the recipe "workshop_co_SignsMetal02" (since they are placeable on walls duh). I succeeded in the way they appear in the game BUT I can only place them on the ground, no way to place them on other objects like tables, etc. For the wall mounted first aid kits - they were in the game - I couldn't place them on the walls, they didn't snap like the Nuka clock or the Metal Signs you get with the "Contraption workshop DLC" for example... So I modified my mod to see if by changing the section in which they were stored in the workshop would debug them but they disappeared... I also tried looking at the "Navmesh Generation Import Option" but I don't understand much of it unfortunately. What did I miss? What is the option to make them "snap" like some of the vanilla objects? Why can't I find the wall mounted medkits I previously added in game? Tell me if you need me to upload the mod to the nexus if you need to take a look into it. I hope you can help me find a solution to this problem and thank you for reading this ! vronykah
Congrats on working on your first mod. Full disclosure - I use FO4 Edit (or xedit) not the CK. So, as far as your items not placing on the walls - it sounds like they need a snap point added, or CPA, just like what you'd use for a painting. I would add this in Nifskope, since I don't use CK. The easiest way I found to learn how to do it would be to take an item that snaps on the wall (like a painting-that is already a settlement item) and replicate the snap point it has. As far as the non-wall objects that only place on the ground - it sounds like they are missing the right properties to allow them to stack on things. Again, I only know of this in xedit - but under the container/static item there are property/actor values you can assign an item: Such as "Anything is ground" or "Stackable item." I assume that's also in the CK somewhere. Try finding those or start using xedit. I hope this comes as some help to you. v
BenpMark1
Hi vronykah, Thank you for taking some time to answer my post! I think I will continue working with the Creation Kit for the time being but I'll consider picking FO4Edit if I can't figure out the fix. Concerning snap points it would be easier if I tried working with Nifskope then? Ok, I'll check it out. Anyway, thank you again for taking time to help a noob aha. BenpMark1 EDIT : I succeeded in fixing the ground containers, I have uploaded my mod to the Nexus "Workshop Addon - Placeable Ammo Boxes and First Aid Kits" and made a version 0.2 available for download but I don't know how to use NifSkope... I watched tutorials and stuff but other than downloading various programs, I am still stuck. Following those videos, I downloaded "Bethesda Archive Extractor" and "NifSkope" and I extracted .Ba2 files in a separate folder. All I wanted to do was to find the .nif of the object I wanted to modify to have "snap points" but I can't find it even after I extracted files with B.A.E.... So hard to find something in all those files... I am totally lost. EDIT 2: I created snap points for the 2 hanging medkits and saved the new .nif files then I opened the CK to edit the previous .nif file in "Model" located in Meshes/SetDressing/FirstAidHanging/(item.nif) and replace it with the new .nif that has the snap point. Unfortunately, the CK won't allow me to change it, it gives me a prompt "File Error : Invalid Directory"... I am dumb, I just needed to change the files directory to the main folder where Fallout 4 is installed... EDIT 3: I tried the snap points in game, doesn't work, my medkits go through everything... The only way to place them is making them clip through the ground lol EDIT 4 : I found a way to fix the collision/snap point problem, I changed the name of it in NifSkope to P-WS-AutoPlace and switched the value of the Y axis to -180 and now I have placeable wall mounted medkits!
