brosephmcjosephson
Anyone knows which settlement has the least lag?
TheSpaceShuttleChallenger
Honestly the only ones I've had noticeable lag with are the ones in Downtown Boston -- Hangman's Alley and Bunker Hill. If you're on a really poor PC you might also consider staying away from Warwick Homestead, Jamaica Plain, Croup Manner and Greygarden, since they're all rather near to areas with a lot of NPC activity.Otherwise the locations are pretty decent, performance-wise, so if you're having problems with lag no matter where you go, it's probably not the location itself that's causing problems. Check your mods of course. Otherwise, settlers can be pretty rough on your load times, so I'd always add just add one at a time, leave and come back to check and see if you're having performance drops due to your population size. Having too many objects in your settlement can be a problem but the vanilla build limit is well beneath what most computers can handle, so you shouldn't have to worry about it unless you're using mods/console commands to raise your build limit. Fkemman11
There are several ways to boost your performance. Believe me- I should know.
Scorpio9
Nordhagen Beach should be a good choice simply because it has nothing around it. Other settlements like Staralight Drive In, Coastal Cottage, Tenpines Bluff etc. should also be good, because they also don't have much going on around them, maybe some trees. For performance less is more. :)
MissingMeshTV
You can get a stable 60 FPS in any settlement, including Hangman’s Alley if: You don’t go out of your way exceed the settlement build budget. It’s there for a reason.Don’t disable precombined meshes by using scrapping mods or .ini edits. Disabling the optimization system in this way is the most common cause of poor performance. Don’t overload the settlement with NPCs (settlers, companions). This can also apply to turrets. The game classifies turrets at Actors, the same category as NPCs. I’ve found that having too many turrets can also causes performance problems.EDIT: you can go over the build limit to a certain degree if you system can handle it but there is no hard or fast rule as to what that actually entails.
