RaceMenu Alpha, "ShowRaceMenu" command does nothing

So i decided to install RaceMenu you Alpha despite not wanting to install Alpha mods, esp since there is "a little" assembly required. So i've spent the past 2 hours or so toying around with it trying to get it to work starting from scratch once, looking at a youtube video and following a modders description on how i installed it.

How to install RACEMENU for SKYRIM SE

1. Download RaceMenu for the Skyrim version and extract it to a new folder(Lets name it RacemenuSSE)
1.1. Download Bethesda Archive Extractor and run the file bae.exe
2. Open the folder where you extracted the Racemenu, click and drag a file called "RaceMenu.bsa" into the Besthesda Archive Extractor and then click "Extract"
2.2. Extract the files on the RacemenuSSE folder, after extracting it, delete the file RaceMenu.bsa
3. Download the Racemenu SSE Alpha(skse64plugins.7z) there will be 2 folders, one called skse and another hudextension, we will extract both
3.3. open the skse folder and drag the SKSE folder into the "RacemenuSSE" folder, allow it to overwrite.
4. Now go back and open the hudextension folder and drag the SKSE and the Interface folder in the RacemenuSSE folder, allow it to overwrite.
4. And ur done with the hard part.

1. After doing that exit the folder and click with the right button on it and use "Add to", that will zip the entire folder into a .7z or .rar archive, this will be the mod
2. It is recommended to install it via a mod manager, since u can easily disable it with it, install as you usually would
3.6 - If ur lazy open the zipped archive and the folder and extract everything inside the data folder (Interface, meshes, scripts, SKSE, textures, RaceMenu.esp, RaceMenuPlugin.esp)

Done, now you have the RaceMenu Alpha

To install RaceMenu i've done the following
> downloaded the plugins from Git Hub, unpack them

> download (old rim) racemenu. unpack as well, renamed the archive to include the name in its name to avoid confusion

> unpacked the BSA, used a new folder, called it Racemenu SE alpha 6 WIP

> took the plugin folder Skee, opened it, and dragged the resulting SKSE folder to my SE Racemenu Alpha folder

> took the other Hud extension folder contents (interface and SKSE) and dragged them to the SE Racemenu Alpha folder

> opened the BSPs in the CK and saved them (no edits just change the form to SE standards)

> zipped the resulting folder and added that via NMM (manually)

So what's the in game issue? well...

Skyrim, SKSE, SKYUI, and the ENB all boot up all great.

i start a new game and i am just some male nord named "prisoner" with al the default bells and whistles.

i go to type in "ShowRaceMenu" in the console and nothing happens, i tried going to the Ragged Flagon to see if anything would happen and aside from a light spawning for a little while nothing happened.

i disabled the mod and Ran skyrim, just to be sure like the normal interface would work, it does.

so now here i am, wonder what in the heck i am doing wrong.

Thank you.

Unfortunately. there's plenty of room for all kinds of errors in this procedure.Simply copy or drag one folder to the wrong location, and you're out of luck... I read your description, and I'm suspecting an error with all that "new folder" steps.

Maybe it helps to clarify the structure of 7zip archives for use in mod managers (like NMM). Imagine the archive you're creating was the game's "data" folder. So you have to order its contents with folders and subfolders exactly the way the files should be in your "data" folder. This means for example, that plugin files (esp) must be in the "root folder" of your archive. A common mistake a lot of people make is to create a subfolder named after the mod (e.g. "Racemenu") within the archive and then put the contents of the mod in that folder. This will result in a folder called "Racemenu" WITHIN the game's data folder - and in a mod, that doesn't work.

Okay, back to Racemenu:

My advice would be to stick to the (already unzipped) original "Oldrim" Racemenu as your basis. Use its folder structure as a "blueprint".

Extract the BSA right where it is, then delete it. Don't copy anything around.

After that, you basically only work within the "SKSE" folder. It should only contain one subfolder called "Plugins". This is the one where you copy the contents of the "SKEE" folder from "Racemenu Alpha".

BTW, you don't need "Hudextensions" at all. It's some personal mod by "expired", that creates floating health, magicka and stamina bars or something. It's definitely NOT needed for Racemenu to function properly.

EDIT. Here's another tutorial, that definitely works. Don't get me wrong: DirtyWeasle is great and definitely knows his stuff. But he can be somewhat "lenghty" at times, making it harder to follow his tutorials step by step.

Thank you for the tutorial

apparently my issue was WinRAR wasn't making "proper" zip files or something because when i Zip it with the Default windows one instead it worked and before i was always using the Zip option when i added all the files to the archive. kinda weird if you ask me.

i'll update this thread if i get anymore issues.

Glad you got it working. I don't know why, but there seem to be issues with archives created with WinRAR and NMM. You're not the first to report this issue. I'd suggest using 7zip. It's free and very reliable. Never had any issues with it.
