Le Santyr
I've been running Morrowind on 2 machines, one on an old 1Ghz, Radeon 64Mb DDR, and one on a 3Ghz, Mobile GeForce 4 T? I recently saw the game on a new beast of a PC that my mate had and the water looked fantastic, all reflections and everything... was just wondering what graphics card technology was used for this effect? I think the machine had a new Radeon 9700... Bit miffed as I only got my laptop a few months ago n thought it was pretty good!! lol
loveme4whoiam
Mmm, i think its pixel shaders that make the water look so snazzy, although i'm no expert on the technology of the engine. Its a shame the pixel shader techno could not be applied to all the textures of the game, since that would look pretty neat. Well, guess there's always ES:IV :D
Narynzine
Hasn't this already been posted about earlier?
Slaiv
Most likely a pixel shader......but by no means good. Sure, it looks good, but there aren't really any effects (such as splashes, etc...). And now, compared to some other games (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, anyone?) it completely blows. But I can understand that, seing how old MW is. Note that the above references to "old" are considered old only by PC/Videogame standards, which progress much faster than human growth, thus, old is considered to be older than 1.5/2 years........ thanateros
Granted MW is about 1 1/2 years old but still the graphics aren't too shabby, even for today's standards. Certainly the engine needs a lot of work, and the physics of the game need to be completely redone, but visually I have no complaints. Simply the architecture of the game is impressive, not to mention they fit everything onto one CD (which still amazes me). Don't forget how good the textures are, especially the High Ordinator armor, I still comb over and am amazed at how detailed it is. I like to think of it as a jumping off point by which games that follow will have a standard to live up to in terms of graphics and the shear freedom you have to explore. For next gen PC RPG's, in a sense, has the same impact that FFVII; it completely flipped the (RPG at least) gaming industry upsidedown.
Dark_Penance
Final Fantasy 7 ruled the gaming industry for about 5 to 7 years! Anyway back on topic, the graphics are as go as the games coming out today with the texture packs that are coming out. With MEMOD coming out it will bring it back on top of the charts probably. Final Fantasy rules!!!!! sorry
Slaiv
I have to oppose that- Morrowind graphics are pretty pathetic, now that I think about it. Not that graphics matter. But just think about it- very limited animations, basically no physics, so much clipping it's not funny, many graphical/collision detection glitches, etc..... I still love the game, but I seriously don't think that Morrowind has good graphics whatsoever.
valdir
I'd rather have Nethack then a game that runs exceedingly poor and looks bad doing it! But if you wanna see what pixel shading on all the textures in a game looks like, play Deus Ex Invisible War; Every and anything is pixel shaded, normal mapped, bump mapped etc.. and it looks like CRAP! -val
