If someone could take a minute to take a look at these logs - random CTD

So all of a sudden my game has developed the tendency to crash to desktop.

Now, in the logs i'm about to post, there's mention of Sim Settlements, which i have uninstalled, so i have no idea why they're appearing, in any case, if someone could take a look and see what could be crashing my game, that'd be awesome.

The only new stuff i installed is Better Manufacturing, AWKCR (only because Better Manufacturing for some reason requires it) and Equipment Sorter (a new sorter for Contraptions DLC). I also had Armorsmith Extended but removed it in case it was causing the CTD, which unfortunately wasn't the case.

 

EDIT: So i went back to a previous save, this one was in Sanctuary, did some stuff there (rebuilt a store, blah blah blah), no CTD, then went back to where it kept crashing (Reeb Marina), and boom, the moment i enter the area, the game crashed. Can't for the life of me figure out why.

 

EDIT2: Did more testing, turns out it was AWKCR that causing the CTD, at least according to the game that hasn't crashed since i disabled it.

did you remove Sim Settlements during an active playthrough, or did you install it before starting a new game, if its the former, your issues will get a lot worse down the line ( i am going to assume it is the former since its scripts are mentioned in papyrus logs, which means Sim Settlements scripts are baked into your save file)

 

scripted mods, have their scripts baked into the save files, if said mod is removed, you are going to have issues (which will become very apperent the more progress you make on the save game), issues such as CTD, Freezing, Save bloat, and finally Save Game Corruption (which is highly caused by Save Bloat)

 

never delete a scripted mod in an active playthrough. only remove/delete a scripted mod before starting a new game.

 

unless bethesda done some magic to fallout 4, skyrim which shares the same engine, would cripple if scripted mods were deleted during an active playthrough, this should also apply to fallout 4. since they share the exact same engine.

 

 

Was Sim Settlements used in this location --> Reeb Marina <--

 

if it was, that would explain the CTD when entering that area, again assuming you Deleted Sim Settlements during an active playthrough.

 

and lastly, keep an eye on your save game files sizes, if their is major differences in save game sizes, this could be a sign of *Save Bloat* if that is the case, you could be stepping into *Save Game Corruption* Territory

I haven't actually used Sim Settlements at all, it was installed and activated, but never used.

As far as the CTD, it seems to have been caused by AWKCR, since the crashes stopped as soon as i removed it and the files that depended on it. I went ahead and reinstalled AWKCR after a while (new version was released in the meantime), and the crashes haven't returned yet so i'm gonna start reinstalling the other mods i removed at the time one by one, starting with Sim Settlements, then moving on to Armorsmith, Better Manufacturing and that sorter mod.

Will be making a few passes near Reeb marina just in case to make sure everything works.

 

Here's the thing i noticed with my save file sizes. Before the removal of these mods, my file sizes were approximately 37mb per save. After the removal, any new saves are approximately 13mb in size.

looking at them file size difference, i would say for almost certain that it could be Save Bloat, which is very likely to cause CTD and other issues. so this would then mean, that said mods are either badly scripted, or have a lot of scripts being fired very frequently.

 

 

Possibly, but so far so good, since the reinstall of those mods i haven't really had many crashes. In those 2 days, literally only 2 crashes, and my FPS seems to be back to normal (guessing NMM messed up the previous mod installs somehow as i was getting some FPS dips when i shouldn't have). Thankfully i back up my saves every once in a while, so if something does happen i always have a save to go back to. :)
