rv238
I have been working on this for a while but whenever I start Skyrim there is a black box that pops up like it should but then it closes very fast. Is there any ideas on what I should do?
Georgiegril
I get that, I think it is just part of normal NMM startup. But after that the game opens to the loading screen, for me. What NMM, which skyrim version? Are you using SKSE? What is the name on the button you are clicking on NMM to start the game? Did you load NMM using the default folder locations, and Skyrim using the defaults from Steam? Also, (not to say this is your issue) if you don't have a legal version, NMM wont work for you. Georgiegril
Its not NMM the game is actually not working when i press play the black box comes up closes and no Skyrim =(. NMM is what would start the game, if you use that instead of the traditional steam start. Have you tried bypassing NMM and starting it from Steam? If you can't do that either, then it may be a problem with your steam or game files.

Honestly I *don't* think there is anything wrong with your steam game. However, opening Skyrim through steam will help us rule that out and then you can focus on what the issue is. Possible that there is something amiss related either to NMM's code that connects to Skyrim/Steam, a graphics or CPU setting, or a mod somehow shutting it down. Please do not imagine that my suggestions are intended to besmirch your character, I am merely running through troubleshooting procedures, which often involve being able to confidently cross things OFF of the list as possibilities.

I cant even let it detect my settings because the launcher crashes when I try =(
What is "it?" the steam launcher or NMM?

Georgiegril
Well I'm glad not to have offended. If the problem is in both, it is likely either a mod issue, or some sort of corrupted file, maybe a save file. Skyrim can get corrupted saves...the more you play the greater the chance. It is possible that it is some sort of configuration issue. Doing things like making changes in your options can set .ini files to default. Also if you happen to have maxed out your RAM with other programs. So I would start by verifying the steam cache (youcan do this by clicking on steam library on the Steam menu, right click on Skyrim from the games list, left click on properties at the bottom of the pull-down menu, then click on the tab that says local files. You can then choose to verify game cache and also defrag wouldn't hurt. If that does not help, then I'd look at mods next. If you have a lot, I'd try running BOSS first to make sure they are in optimal order. If there aren't a lot, I would try removing all of them according to the mod author's instructions and seeing if the game runs without them--this would be the second step in the case of a lot of mods. Then I would try starting a new game from the beginning. That may help if it is a save file. If the game still doesn't run, I would completely remove Skyrim, by going through the Steam interface and following instructions. Also remove Local Files on Steam. However, Steam does not always remove everything, so to be safe, I'd go through your program files/steam/steamapps/and delete everything related to Skyrim. This means you will have to lose your character and start from the beginning. It is painful, but usually effective if your Skyrim became corrupt. If you are really attached to your character, have tried every step but this, and really really want to avoid losing your current character, please let me know. There are a few other things we might try befor the game reinstall, although they may not be as likely to work. And there are ways to keep your character, although it increases the chance of transferring whatever the issue is into your "new" game. Let me know how it goes!
