i just reformatted my vista because it was in dire need of it. well anyways i started downloading my mods again and i came to realise that new folders wont stick in my data files.

for exaple if i drag a folder over to data files it shows a quick split second unzip and the file i dragged dissapears.

the only files that will stick are esp's or a single texture file but i cant move a texture folder over with numerous textures inside. it wouldnt be a probem but i dont have folder in the vanilla obliv files like textures and meshes ( fresh install) i only see oblivion texture bsa files ect.... which i cant open

ive never seen this before so any advise is welcome

Hm.. you had Oblivion installed in your Program Files? this would happen probably if you didn't uninstall it, you made no mention of that. I highly recommend not installing it in your programs this time while on vista, you'll have no problems installing it to D:\ drive on your computer and using mods. I've seen more cases of textures liked to D:\Bethsoftworks\Oblivion\Data than C:\Data

someone will know what i mean by that

This should be in the technical support section, it is a problem with vista and the default installation location.

Moving.

sounds like this problem happens after extracting, even if you wanted to put the entire zip folder into your Data folder, it should still appear. hate to see these problems that may be due to vista

here's a long shot, do not do this if you're not using your own computer

User Account Controls (UAC) restricts other accounts on your computer and requires passwords to change files in your Program Files and to run various applications. Turning this off permanently, lets anyone with access to your pc do whatever they want. not a lot of people need this on, so to turn it off..

Enter the Control Panel - Home View

then click on 'User Accounts and Family Safety' - then hit User Accounts

At the end of the links you will see Turn User Account Controls On / Off

If you use Shivering Isles you will want to do this anyway with using windows vista

i run oblivion on a vista computer and you don't have to install it to another drive and you don't have to turn off your UAC, that causes other problems with vista. simply install oblivion on your C: drive outside of the program files folder. I use C:/games and after it's installed right click your oblivion shortcut and select the option to run the program as an administrator. Next thing you will want to do is change all of the shortcuts to any program that changes and/or creates files such as winrar or 7zip to also run as administrator and you shouldn't have any further problems. A word of advice about running your Vista with the UAC off, DON'T DO IT! it causes more problems than it fixes and in order to repair them i had to reinstall my OS. The first sign that you have a serious internal problem with windows is that it will take one to two minutes for you to move or rename a single file.

Who are you tellin'? I never heard of that probably your pc was infected with malware or spyware, in any case you should rely more-so on a good anti-virus, like Avast, that updates just about every day.

I have had UAC off since the beginning of this year and have had not a single problem, it does conflict with SI and mods that require .tes files
