firefable
Well, I just want to know if level caps exist in oblivion. My friend told me that the max level is 70, and i read somewhere on the forum that they dont exist, so can someone shine some light on this topic please. Sarya
You reach level cap when all your primary skills are 100. The lower they are at the beginning - the higher the cap is. For example an altmer barbarian or a nord conjurer will have a highest one - about 63 if I remember correctly. I don't know if mods that eliminate skill caps raise your maximum level - but they should.
LoginToDownload
The aforementioned cap can be worked around by spenting large amoutns of time in jail to drop your primary skills.

Vagrant0
You reach level cap when all your primary skills are 100. The lower they are at the beginning - the higher the cap is. For example an altmer barbarian or a nord conjurer will have a highest one - about 63 if I remember correctly. I don't know if mods that eliminate skill caps raise your maximum level - but they should.Mods will get you around the "100" limit on major skills. I used to have TalkieToaster's "Legendary Mastery" mod for that; however, he recommended everyone using his old mod to go with Elys Uncapper. This allows you to progress normally up to 200 in skills. The latter mod requires OBSE.Except that for the most part, skills past 100 aren't used by the game. no additional perks are open to you, and eventually even damage ceases to rise from skill. Meanwhile your level goes up, your health goes up, and all those leveled spawns go up as well. This has an unfortunate side effect of some things having several thousand health when you get to around level 80 or so... Meanwhile your weapon damage has been more or less capped since level 40 or so. Levels don't matter, skills do. Leveling too much early on can lead to significant problems when dealing with some of the quests where you need non-leveled NPCs to not get killed by leveled spawns. Do kvatch some time with a level 30+ character, all the guards get pwned badly. This isn't some MMO, don't be concerned with anything like max level. What matters is what skills you focus on, and if those skills count toward your level, or just serve to make you more capable.
Varus Torvyn
Vagrant, give those of us using these levelling mods a little credit. I know what level to do Kvatch at. I didn't just blindly install it.
Storm Raven
Varus Torvyn, I don't think Vagrant0 was referring to you. I think his post was directed at the person who posted the topic. He does make some good points though. For those users not familiar with how leveling up too quickly can affect other aspects of the game. It's been my experience that somewhere between levels 60 and 80. The really cool treasures that are dropped by creatures in the planes of oblivion stop getting dropped. The one that comes to mind is a ring of fire that grants you 100% immunity to fire. Valuable spells, another cool gear, just seem to leave the loot lists. It was probably just me and other mods I was using, but I had trouble with Toasters "Legendary Mastery". So I appreciate your point about moving on to Elys "Un-Capper". I will certainly be giving it a shot just have to find the link. Actually, I thought, LoginToDownload's comments were kind of humorous to me. I employed that tactic in Morrowind, a number of times to level up. That was before I knew mods existed. Managed to ring up some pretty serious bounties killing Guards in different places. The old man said, laughing out loud. Getting back to where I stored my stuff from some of those prisons without a stitch of clothing on was pretty funny. Problem was, I never knew which skills were going to be downgraded and some of them were real pain to level back up again. I'm sure LoginToDownload knows better ways to level up. But it was a correct answer to the question to the original poster. And a good answer for those who do not understand how leveling works in the game. Varus Torvyn
Thanks, Stormraven. Sometimes it is a bit difficult to determine meaning within a post. Especially since you can't post tonal inflection, for example. ;D You were wanting to find Elys' levelling mod? I've got all my mods loaded up in Dark0ne's new "Tracking Center". Makes it really easy to locate mods now (not to mention updates): Elys Uncapper
