CTD around Riften

i wonder why every i fast travel to Lost Tongue Overlook my game crash ?? it crashes between Shadow Tone and Lost Tongue Overlook.

hi crazyegg123, i do not recall any commonly known issues with the regions south/north of Riften causing CTD's.

My guess is you might either have a mod installed that added something to your game world mesh (like a player home) or

you have an unfinished active quest in the area that is stuck at an out-of-sequence bugged script stage causing the game to crash.

Vaguely recall a player home mod located near Riften causing issues with fast travelling.

 

CTD's are usually caused by the game engine failing to render transition cells when you use fast travel; which,

might be caused by running too high a display resolution or HD texture mods or ENB/FXAA/shadow/water/clutter/buffer settings.

Have you changed any INI settings? Are you pushing your gaming rig too hard?

 

Can you travel (walk) normally into that area? Have you tried verifying your game cache via Steam?

Has Steam updated your game recently?

Anyway, I would start by looking at any new mods you may have added recently, hope you figure this out..

You can always reach your destination by typing coc riftenorigin. Maybe once you've reached your destination, done some stuff, and approached the crash point from a different direction, you won't crash anymore. Happened to me once and that's how I fixed it.

i have tried disable all mods, fast travel to the Snow-Shod farm near Shadow Stone and it still crashes everytime i go to the south

@PsxMeUP thank for your help but it only crash outside Riften

@crazyegg123, just to be sure its not a mod that's causing the CTD's,

you can try using this little utility to check your savegame for lingering mods that might still be embedded in

the savegame you made after disabling all your mods:

Hope your savegame didn't get corrupted somehow.

 

Take a look at files 'DLCList.txt' and 'plugins.txt' (search for them in your systemdrive), you should not see

any mods/files listed otherthan probably the default game file 'Skyrim.esm'.

 

Might be a good idea to have Steam verify your game cache.

 

You also might try backing up your skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini files then either delete or rename them; so,

when you launch Skyrim it will generate fresh versions with default settings.

 

Check your quest journal and look for any 'suspicious' looking unfinished quests involving any NPC, location, or faction

in the Riften region.

If you see one, you might be able to troubleshoot by getting the specific quest ID and do a reset using console.

 

Did you install any HD textures as a BSA archive or loose files that modify Riften?

 

fyi, I do not have much detail to go on to help out and can only suspect you may have accidently modified the game

somehow or used a bad console command or mnod that's now causing CTD's outside Riften..

You may need to revert to an earlier savegame that doesn't CTD and replay everything up to your current progress.

Skyrim is somewhat delicate/buggy and not overly robust regarding mods.. CTD's happen to the best of us! lol.

Also the animated leaves around Riften can dramatically increase the load to your video card, so if you are playing at close to what your card can handle, the leaves may be enough to push your card beyond its capacity. You can decrease this effect using several pref.ini settings. Or I think there is a mod that also will do it, something like less leaves. I would especially suspect this if you also have problems around Whiterun, where the grass animation can cause similar problems.

Georgiegril's right, i also installed this performance mod a long time ago which modifies the aspen tree leaf meshes.

These trees are common to the Riften area called 'The Rift' or 'Autumn' area of Skyrim, the default falling leaves animations

can cause performance issues for some people (i was not really having an issue with this),

the modder's fix is either by replacing the default 512x512 nif's with 128x128 versions or disabling the falling leaves i think.

The modder also includes fixes for pine needles, rainfall and snowfall. Hey there Georgiegril, thanks for helping out lol.

i don't use any mod that change or increase the textures. The game just worked fine before.

@crazyegg123, a few unanswered questions are what mods you installed or console tweaks used before this started happening.

Also, do you currently have active quests in your journal from multiple guilds/factions/locations.

If you load an earlier savegame do you still get a CTD fast travelling to Lost Tongue Overlook?

Might be easier for you to find a stable earlier savegame and replay to your current progress.

Sadly i have only 2 save game now :wallbash:, tried them both still crashed. I also have 2 missions inside Riften and a mod called " Beautiful Riften " but i don't think it related CTD.
