Micro-stuttering

MattC

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I can't get rid of some small but really annoying micro-stuttering in my game. The framerate in itself is good but sometimes it looks like a couple of frames are skipped.

I think it comes from one of my mods but I can't figure out which one. I did disable them almost one by one but everytime I think it's gone I later realise it's not.

It seems to be working fine without any mods though.

Here is my mod list:

Any help or suggestion would be really awesome

It has been advised that after every update ( or crashes ) to clean the game cache ( Steam ) and also clean the master files via xEdit. It has helped me a lot to avoid stuttering. Nevertheless, there may be some mods that contribute to the annoying stuttering but I do not know which are.

Things that modify existing meshes is the culprit in my game.

Just mesh mods that modify existing meshes, like repair houses, open them up, fix broken things like bridges. Mods that add on top of those mods do not set that micro-stutter off. And all of this persist even though the pre-comb is rebuild and patched. I don't go near bUseCombinedObjects=.

Meshes show up fine, but introduces a twerk in the frames every 3 seconds. Not massive stutter or lag, just that little annoying jit. Was not the controller issue either in my end, but you could start by trying that, turn it off along with vibrate.

Thank you for you help both of you
I tried all your suggestions and it seems to have reduced the stutter.

However it's still here so if anyone has any other ideas it'd be great!

Also I forgot to mention that I use Mod Organizer 2

I've just started to see stuttering in Skyrim SE for the first time. It seems to be the result of the fps limiter (using the nVidia card feature) not quite managing the frame rate effectively when it hits 60 fps. I see it hit 61 fps and it stutters. What sort of frame-rate limiter are you using, and what fps values are you seeing? That might be a factor.

I don't think I'm using any FPS limiter...

Perhaps I'm using the same one as you without being aware of it

Where is it located ?

There are a couple of options. I'm currently using the nVidia Control Panel, which has an option for 60 fps, but it's not handling 60 fps well when the game actually manages to hit that rate. There is also nVidia Profile Inspector, which gives you more options, such as setting the limit to 58 fps, which allegedly reduces issues I'm seeing. I'll be trying that soon. I used it for Skyrim LE and FO4 and it seemed to work well. If you use either of these, make sure Vsync is off in the ini file. In the Skyrim prefs ini, it's iVSyncPresentInterval=0, so I assume it's the same name in FO4. IIRC, some people were saying that using the game Vsync causes problems.

Oops. I did not remember this correctly. It's not a 60 fps setting. It's still Vsync, and the large-screen TV I'm using as a monitor runs at 60 fps. It's under "Manage 3D settings." It's supposedly better to use this Vsync than the game Vsync, but using the Inspector Profile setting is the best. You can pick the frame rate you want as an upper limit. If you use the in-game Vsync, it wants to run at either 60 or 30 fps. If it can't stay near 60, it drops down to 30 (it does this in Skyrim SE anyway). So maybe Vsync is crappy regardless of which one you use. Try the Inspector and see if that makes a difference. When I first installed SSE, I didn't find a profile for it, but I see one there now. I don't recall any stuttering in FO4 and Skyrim LE when using the profile settings, other than that caused by massive loading.

Alright thanks will try that

Although I noticed that details (like grass and better tree meshes) on semi-distant terrain (25m away) seem to appear all at once in square area (possibly cells ?) and i think the stutter happens when all those details load at once, unlike skyrim for example where it smoothly appear in a radius around me)

Sorry if I'm not being clear I'm not sure how to explain it in a better way.
