Georgiegril
So when you reinstalled the game, did you reinstall any mods?
Georgiegril
Also, what is your VRAM and what settings do you play on?

Georgiegril
I don't have an AMD card, but if you look here: (Tom's Hardware Graphics Card Performance Comparison Chart)External Link It appears that your card is at the lower end of the fps spectrum. I think it is not helpful to compare much to other games. On the bright side, my card (NVidia 9800GT, 512MB) is not even worth their scrutiny, and I am able to play smoothly on Medium, with some tweaks.Since you do not use any mods, I would start from assuming it is a graphics card issue. Maybe try removing reflectivity, lowering view distance and lowering or disabling things like AA, AF,and FXAA. Personally I found Bethesda's HD textures to cause too many problems, so I do not use them, but am able to duplicate or improve upon the visuals by using mods like Vert's Flora Overhaul, Skyrim Mesh Improvement Mod, WATER, etc. I know that AMD card users have had some issues with certain updates, so you might do a search to see if the update is the issue. Also, NVidia has a very helpful tewak guide. Even though you don't have NVidia cards, the first four pages cover basic skyrim interface options and the last four pages cover tweaks to pref.ini and .ini files, which anyone can do. Sorry, it may take some tweaking but I hope you are successful.
mckotor
if its really the g-card then there must be something new i think cause before i could smoothly even play on high graphics.i accept every lil hint happily that brings me closer to running the game fine again :) i heard about an 1.6 update checked my version and its 1.5.26.0 that maybe anything to do with it? Georgiegril
The other thing that you can try is to make sure absolutely every unnecessary background program is off-- auto updates, IM, cloud sync, even things like wireless, especially of you are running your cell phone through it. Georgiegril
Well the 1.6 is in beta, but since you are not doing well now, it seems trying the beta couldn't make things much worse... Sorry my understanding was that you had never been able to get the game to run well. So, with a clean install, no mods... CTDs are typically caused by mod conflicts or memory issues. Like you said, something new must have happened, if you were able to run it smoothly before. So something must have changed.... Did you ever make any changes to your pref.ini or .ini files? These should have reverted to default, but I'm reaching for straws... Have you verified cache files on the new installation? Have you tried defragging game files and your computer? Have you looked at a utility to check your in-game VRAM, RAM, and temperature? A program like CPU-Z can help you figure out exactly what is going on in your computer when the crash happens. If you have dust in your case, it can cause temp rises, which could case a CTD. When you were playing well, were you using the same driver update? If not, you might try rolling back.... Also, you could try to check for sound card updates and DirectX updates. That's about it for ideas from me.... hope something helps!
