Peregrine
Execute the spammers? Other than that, nothing you can really do.
drowst
Depends on what email program your are running to some extent. If your using AOL, hotmail, yahoo, etc, your pretty much stuck with thier fairly lame blocking tools. If you use outlook, you can look at various add-ins out there for it. The best in my opinion are those that use "heuristics" (I think that is the right word) to check your mail. Basically they are looking for key words and phrases to use to block mail instead of addresses. I use the latest version of Eudora with spamwatch turned on. With that and my old list of blocked addresses (a black list if you've heard the term), about 90% of spam is sent to a junk mail folder. My spam ranges from about 30 to 45 messages a day, and usually only 2 or 3 end up in my inbox. I scan the junk folder every day to look for any good email that is missed labeled by the filters, but only 1 or 2 a week end up like that. There is no 100% solution, if you can get 90+ your doing good. Other things to try, keep an email address that you only use to communicate with friends and family. Never post it anywhere, or use it for access to anything. Any address you have that is posted on website or used in a usenet newsgroup post will be harvested by spammers. Also be very careful when subscribing to newsletter and such, those can be skimmed to, or sold by the publisher if your not careful. And finally, never, ever buy anything from a spammer, or reply to spam, even if you are using a "don't send to me link" The majority of those are just used to validate a live address which can then be sold. Also, don't even open spam, many html based spams with inbedded pics, send your email address to the spammer as part of grabbing the pics off their server. This just confirms your addy, and means you will get more spam. Phew, that is a lot, hopefully something helps. Oh, one last thing, my isp earthlink, and many others offer various types of spam filters. If yours does, turn it on, to at least medium level. That will eliminate a lot of common spam. I don't even check it anymore, but I know it filters 40 or so messages a day which aren't even sent to my mail program to filter.
