As a member of this community, I would be extremely wary about requesting an official written statement on the matter. Once you start inviting scrutiny and asking people to look into things, you rarely find the answer that you wanted and it ends up punishing everyone.

I agree completely. That's why I'm having this conversation here, as opposed to on the official forums.

As to the Shivering Isles armour replacer, that is the sort of mod that is allowed because it cannot be used without the Shivering Isles expansion: for one, the textures are locked in the Shivering Isles .bsa file, and for another, the armour won't appear in-game without the expansion. Ditto the clothing replacer - it cannot be used without the game itself.

It is perfectly possible to make a DLC-dependent mod - I've made one myself. All you do is use Bash to .esm-ify the file, create a mod dependent on that conversion, then flip it back into an .esp file for in-game play. So, for example, the KOTN armour could be placed in a cell added by KOTN, thus ensuring that the player has purchased KOTN before playing the mod.

There are several free programs that can be used to make textures recognized by the game. In addition, free programs like Blender can import .nif files, which can then be converted to any other format you may wish to use. Finally, Bethesda themselves has released the Construction Set, which allows users to easily add meshes to the game.

However, it seems that several of you would prefer if I leave this go, so I will. Back on topic, Jannix, I do hope to see more of your work in the future, in one form or another. From the beginning, I've admired your creative flair and unique achievements. Good luck.

You may not want to do this yet Jannix but I'll throw it out to you anyway.

Keeping out of the legality issues raised, I understand and respect your feelings from your earlier post about being tired of supporting your many mods in regard to answering questions, giving help etc.. and maybe just you simply feeling burned out.

However, I feel (and I'm obviously not a lone voice here) that it's still a tragedy that your talents and time are going to vanish into history, at least on nexus, with many newcomers never even seeing let alone enjoying what you've done. So here's my point..

Is there no middle ground that can be found? I'm thinking of at the least uploading your catalogue again for a week lets say, now that people are aware you want to quit.

That would give those who want to (me included) the chance to 'stock up'. If I'd known you were going to retire I'd have downed every thing you've done.

Or even this scenario.

Put the mods up, with ratings/comments disabled a la AlienSlof, but with a leading statement that the mod comes as it is, without support as everything needed is in the readme.

Then we all go off into the sunset.

Whatever you do, its up to you. you owe nobody. You've earned a break.

EDIT (17:03 GMT): herosinger just informed me you've still got your stuff on PES. That's good to know.

PS answered for me so I'll leave it at that Hero.

JQ's files are still here as well they have just been blocked from public view. It would be a small matter for LH to turn off all the comments so that is something to think about JQ.

Or not I don't really care anymore at this point because people will come and go, yes even great ones like you, it is a fact of life and something I have come to accept and expect. As was said you owe no one anything and again I thank you for all you have given. I would like to see you stay but what I would like even more is for you to be happy and stress free, any and everyone deserves no less out of life. Take care.

So you said it best Giskard and I'll put it in much less sympathetic and more absolute terms for everyone. IF YOU CAN"T STAND THE HEAT, GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. In other words if you don't like it there, LEAVE. It's not like you don't have a choice and like Dark0ne said the more you try and change it the less Bethesda will want to do with the us. It serves as a burden to the system they have instilled and when it becomes to much to bear they will most certainly shed it and all of us along with it.

Hi mate :)

See my pm, im leaving this thread.

The package I made doesn't include the KOTN Textures, and so the KOTN armour can't be used without buying KOTN.

Just for the purpose of clarification: the objection is on the grounds that the KOTN meshes are being used, albeit in modified form, and that armour can be used without buying KOTN. So long as the source mesh is from KOTN, you are still effectively redistributing the armour from KOTN. If you create an entirely new mesh in Blender or Max and apply your texture to it, then that would be fine; or you could make your mod dependent on KOTN by e.g. using a location from that expansion.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your break from modding and that perhaps in the future you'll feel the urge to mod again.

I'm sure everyone would like to see this incident solved somehow. Perhaps Jannix could redo the mesh so it would be different. Then he could allow his mods to be visible again, even just as-is without support.

yeah but since the armor has to have KOTN installed to work does it matter whether it uses KOTN meshes? i dont know these things so i could be wrong

That was the point, actually. KotN did not have to be installed the way Jannix had it set up.
