babsik
Hi Staind716 - thank you for yor answer, i neglected to mention that i did what you said when i started playing again a week ago. To clarify - i played skyrim when it came out including all sorts of mods - never had any problems, i think i stopped playing when patch 1.2 or 1.3 was out but still in this patched state i never had any problems, then i deinstalled it and ALL of it's contents - now after a witcher 2 playthrough i got back to skyrim - reinstalled my steam backup and then steam updated it to 1.5 - and then hell broke loose like described in my recent post, i also have to say that i was far from messing around with my new installation as i did with the old one - today as i wrote this post i downloaded the game anew from the steamservers and this time i tried again the 1.6 beta - the game behaves the same way as it did before; 5 minutes ago i nearly crushed my headset because i spend another 3 hours of trying to get the game to run with mods - my modlist as activated now: ApachiiHairExtendedColorsEnchanting FreedomHDPlants and HerbsStatic mesh improvementN_43 Hair PackEyes of Beautywyldtat1,2 and 3Bella's Better FemalesBetter Dynamic SnowBloodier CombatEnhanced BloodTexturesDetailedCities, Detailed OutskirtsHQ snow textureImproved Skill BooksWatery RocksLush Grass, Lush TreesMore Grass, More RainOpen CitiesReal MountainsRealistic LightingScenicCarriagesLegible Road SignsSounds of SkyrimTerrain BumpThat's IceWater and Terrain Enhancementbirds and flocksPaarthurnax FixWearable LaternsDynamic Merchants my current problem - i rushed through the introScene and am now in riverwood - i look like a freak and thus wanted to change my appearance by opening the console and typing 'showracemenu' - most of the time the game freezes at that point and now i'm going to find out which mod might be the problem - i'm sorry i find this quite annoying - isn't any of you having this problems? i'm really frustrated - i don't understand why the previous versions did work so well and now this turn for the worst.p1t1o - if you read this - which version of skyrim do you play? kevkiev
@babsik - I trust you updated all your various mods? I'll bet a lot were updated for the various patches released since you last played. The SoS mod was actually updated just a couple or so weeks ago in part to correct crash issues. (There's even an optional SoS crash fix to try if the updated version doesn't help.) Neovalen
Apachii Skyhair just updated to fix a crash issue when using ShowRaceMenu, that might help you.
babsik
thank you for your answers - my mods are all either subscribed via steam where they are automatically updated and via the Nexus mod manager which also updates all the mods - @kevkiev - i had no mod backup of my previous games- they all were downloaded fresh@neovalen - thanks for the tip - i will check it out ...yesterday i found out that the open cities mod does not work with most of the mods that change cities and surroundings - e.g. whiterun: installed whiterun trees, beautiful whiterun and open cities - whiterun is there and looks fine but there are no people in it, there is also just a 'open door' or 'close door' at the doors of every building - i cannot enter them. Upon exiting whiterun (the maingate works) i am in whiterun again but this time it is completly screwed and you cannot leave it because there is a 'moat' in front of the maingate so you cannot reach it ('lol'). I also discoverd that the crashes and freezes are a random thing - eg. i had a save which worked with the 'showracemenu' command - i opened it later and then the command would not work anymore although i had changed absolutly nothing. FUNNY THING: upon calling the showracemenu command i recognized that the game would NOT freeze if my cursor was not visible on the screen (was over the lower edge of the screen and thus not visible) - i could not believe it - i tried this many times and it won't freeze if you make sure your cursor is invisible - i have to say i also suspect that some of the crashes on load are linked to steam and it's many flawed procedures (e.g. cloud management). i guess the times of browsing the workshop or the nexus and subscribing to anything i like or downloading it with the NexusModMan. are gone for good - what a pitty. btw - a little question: does any of you know the link to the mod or the name of the mod, where you can hire people to work for you in your house? does it still exist? thanks again for your help! VileTouch
...yesterday i found out that the open cities mod does not work with most of the mods that change cities and surroundings - e.g. whiterun: installed whiterun trees, beautiful whiterun and open cities - whiterun is there and looks fine but there are no people in it, there is also just a 'open door' or 'close door' at the doors of every building - i cannot enter them. Upon exiting whiterun (the maingate works) i am in whiterun again but this time it is completly screwed and you cannot leave it because there is a 'moat' in front of the maingate so you cannot reach it...all of this is quite common with any open cities mod. that's why there are "open cities" versions of other mods that make changes in the cities. your problem is that some mod reverted the city back to it's own cell, thus you cannot see anyone there or open doors etc.. i bet if you coc to the city worldspace you can see everyone there. what can you do about it? well... not much really unless you are an experienced modder. just request to the author of the other mod (not open cities) to make a compatible version and pray to mara he's in the mood to do it  ...upon calling the showracemenu command i recognized that the game would NOT freeze if my cursor was not visible on the screen (was over the lower edge of the screen and thus not visible) - i could not believe it.. this one has all the signs of an xml error.. do you use any mods that change the ui in any way? remember that those usually NEED SKSE. and some even need Script Dragon (which cannot be used with the current game version)...and no... there's no update for SD yet. babsik
@VileTouch, thanks for answering; @open cities - yeah, i know where the 'moat' is coming from; i shouldn't have brought it up - it's old news that these mods do not work together (how could they)- i mod a little myself but not to that extend and on that topic i found something if anybody's interested - the mod 'perfect whiterun' is said to work with open cities - i don't know if it crashes the other cities - i don't use it. @asking the modder: he probably would growl at me and put me on his waiting list :D - it's not that bad i really can live without open cities, but thanks @xmlerror: that's a quite interesting point - thank you i wouldn't have gotten that - i checked it and i think it's the the SkyUI mod. I'm also sort of sadned to say that SkyRadio won't work with my 1.6 version - even if i have only SkyRadio installed. The game starts, you see the skyrimlogo on the black background but the game menu won't show up - music continues to play, task manager shows the process to be working - upon terminating the task, not the process, the TESV.exe stays in the process tab. I hope they update it. I'm content so far - i got the 1.6 working with approximately 60 mods and that should suffice for now. Just need a working follower mod and a lot more free time :) Edited June 2, 2012 by babsik
p1t1o
p1t1o - if you read this - which version of skyrim do you play? Hi all, and babsik, I am currently still running 1.5, had been waiting for 1.6 to come out of beta so will install that soon. I have almost 200 mods working and it has been a lot of work de-bugging the setup, thats why Im being so cautious about 1.6 I'm not surprised that you have been having probelms, installing mods willy-nilly has gotten me into trouble before. It is unlikely to be the official patches doing this, and unfortunately, probably something you installed. The open cities mod in your list did jump out at me but i think other peeps here have highlighted that. The only thing that I would add is that most of my problems have been caused by mods that add areas to the game (player houses, new quests etc.) so thats where I look first. Also, install mods one-at-a-time!!! And this is the most important: KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR ENTIRE SKYRIM FOLDER!!! (obviously, a working iteration of it.) Steam once just decided to delete the main executable and backing up would have saved me a lot of work (the re-download forced me into the 1.5 patch when I wasn't ready, had to re-jig my whole mod setup).
